Hi,
This month I decided to try O Come All Ye Faithful. I played the lesson version first and then added a variation I pulled together. I hope they sound OK.

I am a premium member.Thanks, Andrew! I use Garage Band but more as a preamp/pedal and have never (yet) had any luck with recording. I wonder if I’d need a mic that worked with an iPad — I’ve never had any luck with that — though now I have the MacBook, maybe that will manage. I’ll do some hunting.

Thanks Andrew! I’m glad the playing didn’t sound too bad. I was doing the slap technique on the bass but it doesn’t come out very loud in the recording. I wasn’t entirely happy with the sound of the mute strums on the tenor uke.
I’d recorded the accompaniment while listening via earbud to the recorded Stephen’s accompaniment while reading the score from Patreon. Then, while listening via earbud to my accompaniment, I recorded the soprano part.
Putting the two together on iMovie was an interesting challenge. I’d just moved from PC to a 14-inch MacBook Pro and this was the first real non-setup task I’d done in the new machine. I was impressed at how easy it was to send the videos from my iPad to the Mac but that was where the easiness stopped 😀 . Pulling two videos and syncing them was rather interestingly difficult on that platform — a bit like organizing a closet in the dark.
I first learned how to do the basics in iMovie (lots of YouTube videos). After a tons of fiddling and trimming and moving stuff on the timeline, I finally realized that the important part was to make the ending jive — which meant learning how to slow things down for both video and play from the back while going back to the front and paring off film from the soprano. When the two endings matched, the accompaniment at least basically accompanied. Then I lessened the sound of the accompaniment so it didn’t overwhelm. And then I learned how to save the result.
Since then I’ve learned how to make picture in a picture work (I’d put the accompaniment in the bottom tray and it refused to move up so I could make it the inserted picture) and I’ve learned how to make the film and music timeline a bit bigger which would have greatly helped syncing.
Anyway it was a fascinating exercise. I’m enjoying the bass.

Hi,
This month I worked on the Finger-Picking Etude 16 bass and soprano (tenor actually). It’s a bit of a mess but was interesting to try. I’ve never done anything like this and it’s the first time with iMovie and I’m just learning how to use a Macbook.

I’m rather fond of my Magic Fluke tenor. Warm tone, good intonation, and nice range. It’s in your price range.
I have more expensive ukes but still really enjoy playing my fluke and will be using it for this month’s challenge.

Thanks, @leb397! I was on a cruise and found a few spots to practice quietly, but the number of repetitions I’d need to memorize would have driven folk nearby insane.
