@ldarrow, yes he does… good luck and I look forward to hearing it out. Just slow it down as much as you need. You got this!April 14, 2025 at 10:01 pm in reply to: Participate in the April 2025 Member Challenge – WIN $2,250 Kanile’a Ukulele #73474
marianneParticipantBeautiful @deadbuggy and @jbmills07!
I went with ‘3 Levels of Walking Bass Lines for Blues Ukulele’ for this month.
It was challenging to say the least… Didn’t help that I made it extra harder on myself by choosing to play it on the baritone without a capo, which meant the stretches and chord changes were something else at the speed required… I would have practiced more but I have a short month.March 25, 2025 at 9:52 am in reply to: Participate in the March 2025 Member Challenge – Rewind & Replay! #73264

Hi! I am revisiting Spanish Romance from 3 years ago! 9th submission out of 46! Time flies and it’s been fantastic to be part of this lovely enriching RC101 Community (thanks again Andrew and team for all that you do).
I am working on making the notes connect/ring better and continue on building the appropriate expression for it. I chose it too because it’s one that I have dropped from my memorized list of tunes and would like to bring it back.

marianneParticipantI went with Blue Skies. Beautiful tune Matt with a befitting name!
While it is an easier fingerpicking tune, I challenged myself by transposing it for low G (forcing me to introduce some semi-barre chords) and also setting my goal on performing it with the feel it deserves, by applying dynamics and rubato and letting the notes connect and ring as much as possible (imagining a blue sky where small white clouds ebb and flow):February 2, 2025 at 6:22 pm in reply to: Participate in the January 2025 Member Challenge – You Decide What To Work On! #65516
marianneParticipant@jbmills07 I am floored as I listen to your performance. So sorry. Am positive she heard you. What a beautiful parting gift you gave her. Stay strong man

marianneParticipantThanks @Andrew! 🙂
@gi_gi_ gorgeous voice and a lovely take @leb397
@the_bumble_bard thank you and lovely intro as I said. Agree with Andrew that you made it work with the high G
@nat-uke very precise/clean rasqueado!January 26, 2025 at 4:22 pm in reply to: Participate in the January 2025 Member Challenge – You Decide What To Work On! #65324
marianneParticipantGreat playing everybody and thanks a lot @leb397! 🙂
Here’s my rendition of Bossa Nova. I did not get a chance to learn the lead part due to travel (but will in the near future) but I’m happy I managed to progress to a 100% speed.

marianneParticipantNice choices/work everybody! Having fun reading and listening.
@abster that was wonderful! You are very talented
@The_Bumble_Bard thank you so much for picking my piece and your generous compliments 😊! Your intro sounds lovely so far. Great feel and I am thrilled to see it being performed.
@jbmills07 Amazing sounding and looking instrument. Congrats and I look forward to hearing it when done with your singing. It’s moving that you will be singing this to your best friend Regina. I am certain she will love it. A special prayer for her. Our warm thoughts are with her ❤️January 8, 2025 at 7:26 am in reply to: Participate in the January 2025 Member Challenge – You Decide What To Work On! #65145
marianneParticipantFun challenge as always!
1) Execution: I would love to delve deeper into jazz and Bossa nova with more complex jazzy chords/new shapes and syncopated rhythms. I will start by learning the chord sequence and shapes, then learn the syncopated rhythm, and last build up speed until I can play it in the adequate tempo.
2) Application: I will apply this to Bossa Nova – EP008. I might play the rhythm accompanied by the lead, or choose to do both if I feel adventurous enough and ready/capable.
3) Evaluation: I hope that by the end of the month I can play a whole Bossa nova tune in time, accompanied, with clean formed chords.

marianneParticipantthanks @Andrew, @maryjanew, @Emiliano and @The_Bumble_Bard! 😊
@maryjanew, sorry did not get the notification in time! but as Andrew said, an easy adaptation. Let me know if you have any questions relating to a specific measure! your start is lovely! look forward to hearing the whole thing.
@emiliano, funny I also practiced it as a build up whereby round one is as written and round 2 introduces the chords as arpeggio, etc. Just did not have time to record the double version. Your take sounds lovely! Excited to hear it on the baritone when you have it.
@The_Bumble_Bard, look forward to your take! -
