robinboydParticipantHi Joe, just to help Matt answer your question, can you clarify what you mean about Roman numerals? Do you mean that you just can’t read them (ie. MDCCCXXXVI), or is it something else? Are you talking about the numbers attached to the chords in songs (ie. I, V, IV, vi)?

robinboydParticipant@taylor22jane – I love the little trill you did at the end of the B melody. I might steal that!

robinboydParticipantThanks Stephen. If I had another day, I think I’d have it down. That, or if I hadn’t spent the weekend at a friend’s house teaching his daughter how to play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star instead (I hope he forgives me).

robinboydParticipantHere is Santa Fe. Unfortunately I didn’t get enough time to practice this month, so it’s pretty rough. I hit the wrong string at times and I didn’t quite get the last bar right. Another day or 2 of practice ought to sort out those issues though.
robinboydParticipantI know nothing about Breedlove ukes, but it certainly looks pretty!
robinboydParticipant1. Could the strings be old? I have had the instrument for about a year and a half an have never changed the strings.
-> It could be that. I wouldn’t bet on it, but it can’t hurt to change the strings and see what happens.2. Could it be the instrument itself? I have an Ohana TK-20 Tenor.
-> It could be that too. It would be unfortunate if it was, though.3. It’s been very cold here in a usually warm climate. Can that be the cause?
-> It also could be that, but changes in humidity will affect it more than changes in heat. It would be a good idea to get yourself a hygrometer. They aren’t very expensive.4. Something else I’m not thinking of?
-> The big thing I’d look at would be the setup. It’s hard to get perfect intonation, even with impeccable setup because of the different thicknesses of strings. The way to get around this is to have a compensated saddle (like this: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0113/2302/products/[email protected]?v=1462839634). Otherwise, intonation will always be a bit off as you go up the neck on some strings. Low action will mitigate this, though, because with a low action, you don’t have to stretch the strings as much in order to fret cleanly.
robinboydParticipantVery nice!
robinboydParticipantHi @dangar
I haven’t actually played one of these so please take this with a grain of salt, but the impression that I get from online reviews is that these are gimmicky and nowhere near worth the price. If I were going to spend that much money, I’d probably get a one of the cheaper lines from one of the K brands, like a Pono, and Opio, or an Islander. Up to you though. I’m sure it’s fine if you absolutely have to get something that looks like your Strat, although, come to think of it, there are a few companies that make fully electric ukuleles that would look even more like your Strat. I think Risa is one of them.
Robin
robinboydParticipantThanks for the compliment.
If it makes things less overwhelming for you, I say go for it.
robinboydParticipantIt’s funny how different approaches work for different people. I pick up the uke when I feel like it and play whatever I like. If I had a plan like that, I would have given up years ago. It would be way too stressful for me.

robinboydParticipant@malku2603 – I’m really impressed. It sounded great. I’m looking forward to seeing what you post next time.
