I am proud of my self, I was able to memorize this piece. I find it incredibly challenging as retention is unbelievably hard for me. I was please with my delivery of a good portion of this. Some lovely notes rang out (others not so much lol)
I realize this is a simple piece for most, but I got it! Happy day 🙂October 31, 2024 at 11:02 pm in reply to: Participate in the October 2024 Member Challenge – WIN $3,100 Kanile’a #64328

I still struggle with section changes. I finally got the ghost strum rhythm pretty smooth, in practice at least. Despite my best efforts I find I start to get clumsy with the chunk towards the end of the song. I really liked this one, thank you!

ukealoriParticipant@marthad – Thank you for the encouragement. I might give that a try.
@andrew – Thank you for the feedback and the detailed tips. I will try it. Breaking it into memorized chunks just might be the ticket. I find my retention is a definite challenge. I will also watch Matt’s lesson. Thank you for all the advice.I want to wish my fellow Canadians a Happy Canada Day!

Here is Yellow Submarine for June. I think my biggest struggle is getting a consistent tone as I play. I find it just about impossible to memorize songs, therefore I need to look at the music. When I do look, my finger placement suffers, I lose my place, I buzz, and my tone takes a dive. Any suggestions, other than keep practicing? I love playing, but when I hear my musicianship on video, I kinda cringe…. Sorry to all who watch my videos. I SHALL NOT GIVE UP! 🙂

I’ve not posted since Feb of 2023. Just picked up my uke again this month. I feel like I’m starting over, trying to get my fingers to co-operate YIKES! I am still working on my speed, any faster and I completely fall apart. My transitions are not smooth yet, but I have worked hard to get this far so here goes nothin 🙂CLOCKS
Thanks for the great teaching and support on this site.

ukealoriParticipantThanks for your feedback @andrew. I will take a look and give it a try. I am pretty musical, I feel the beat but really struggle to get my hands to co-operate. I am working hard to improve my tone and sustain – a work in progress for sure.
Thank you for giving practical steps to take 🙂

Still working on getting a clear pluck of each note, and getting the same even volume. I really liked working on sliding up to the next fret.. This one will be in my daily practice, When I try for more speed I just can’t do it yet. I’m determined to make it super smooth and in the groove LOL Never too late to get my funk on!
ukealoriParticipantI am not an expert, just a fellow Lefty. I decided to learn uke as if I was right handed. Tutorials and most ukes are for RH players. Through my life I have found I am quite ambidextrous. Both hands are used so I figured it’s all new, just go for it. I am an older learner and do struggle with playing smoothly. Don’t know if being left handed is a factor or just me…
Not sure if any of this is helpful, just my 2 cents.

This is the first song I have ever played from memory AND with the backing track! I am really proud of myself 🙂 I continue to work on finger placement to eliminate the buzzing, but I see tonnes of improvement since I started this song. Thank you to RockClass 101 for helping me push myself to get better every month!

ukealoriParticipant@andrew, Thank you! I have watched your lessons on recording with mics, lighting etc, with Ableton and Powerdirector, but haven’t taken that plunge yet. No pick up in my Uke…
Enjoy your week!

ukealoriParticipantHi @Andrew.
I want to try my hand at recording Song of Storms using the backing track this month. Using an accompaniment track is something new for me so I thought it would be a great challenge to add to my skill set. I tried to search your forums and didn’t have any luck. Is there a “How to” video, or instructions as far as recording? Do I just have the backing track playing in the room as I record so my phone video captures it all live? or is there a better way to include it?I have seen others using headphones, but haven’t yet learned how to edit and video mix…
I’m ready for any suggestions! 🙂 Thanks in advance

I really liked learning “Stranger Things” this month. I struggle with memorizing but am quite pleased with how I play it (when the camera isn’t running LOL)
