Great challenge for me, thanks 🙂
ukealoriParticipantA fellow Islander here, I’m in Port. Ukee is beautiful – West Coast can’t be beat. Great group here, glad you found us!
I used to work at the tourist bureau and would tell people how to pronounce Ucluelet… there is a ‘clue’ in the middle. You-CLUE-let 🙂

I decided to learn the Uke a couple of years ago, for the sheer joy of making music, just for me, and to give this old brain a challenge.
I really struggle with recording myself. I just don’t have flow and musicality when I play. This month I have tried to change my attitude when recording. I am not going for perfection – too stressful and impossible for me right now. My new goal is to aim for a take that shows me where I currently am.I so admire all the participants that nail it – I hope to do that one day. So here I am, posting my video, with a grin and a feeling of accomplishment that I am better than I was last month. Cheers!

I still struggle with performance anxiety, that darn camera. My focus this month was to memorize this piece.I actually did and am pleased….however that darn camera makes me play like a beginner at their first recital…ARGH
I got that harmonic at the end.
My encouragement to all of is live life, take a risk and post that video! Many many takesDecember 23, 2021 at 3:10 pm in reply to: Participate in the December 2021 Member Challenge – WIN $2,100 Kanile’a #50005

Andrew,
I took your advice from last month to heart and really worked on memorizing this piece. I have spent the most time practicing, and I am pretty happy with it….until I try to video myself. After 20 takes, I am shaking it off and going with this one. Forgive me in advance, this is not my best, but the best I could muster on video lol!Progress, not perfection. I love making music! Thank you for these monthly challenges, it keeps me striving to be better.

Thank you for having beginner pieces included in your challenges. As an older learner, I still found this to be difficult – a challenge to be sure 😊 and needed all month to even get it this far.
Still working on:
clean clear tone on each note or chord
even timing
memorizing any song… this skill still eludes me
video record button stage fright, why? just why? lolJune 30, 2021 at 11:54 pm in reply to: Participate in the June 2021 Challenge – LAST CHANCE TO WIN Kanile’a #47556

This song was beyond my beginner skill level so here is just the intro…. The verse & chorus are too painful to watch lol! (and trust me I considered it, I really wanted to get an entry!)
I worked on this just about everyday all month. I shall persevere and keep up with my fingerpicking. Thanks for the monthly challenges, it really has me working hard to make progress.

First time making a video, and I’m proud of myself for posting. Long way to go, lots of buzzing notes and timing is a bit off. First time trying chord melody – this was really hard for me, but I stuck it out, and did the best I could. Old dog – new trick!
