February 2, 2023 at 1:59 pm #56115biancakParticipant@Andrew Thanks for pointing this out. I was practicing the piece on 75%, couldn’t imagine increasing the speed so had a few days’ break away from it and then when I tried again, I realised I could do 100%. Honestly, I didn’t even notice that I unconsciously traded in the pull-offs for the extra speed :DDD

New year, new challenges…
Here is my submission for the speed challenge 😊
Not slowing down or tripping over in the last 2 bars was the trickiest bit 🤪December 23, 2022 at 3:04 pm #55363biancakParticipantI am a premium member
And I’m afraid this Nutcracker will not get any better within today 🙉
Thank you for another year full of great arrangements and challenges.

4 weeks of no uke, healing time for the fingers. Was happy to find this piece didn’t need the pinky…

My hobbies are incompatible 🙁 Cracked bones in 2 fingers on the left hand a month ago while street skating. Crossed off a few notes upfront, plus missed a few during playing, and scrapped vibratos but here it is…
Definitely a keeper for further practice! Great arrangement, thanks.October 2, 2022 at 3:32 pm #53933biancakParticipantThank you for the feedback @Andrew. I was still slower than the indicated 120 but could not have played it faster… But I fully agree, the song grooves more at a slower tempo.
I used a metronome app for practice (set it to 8x 8th to help with the trickier parts like moving on in bar 8…) and actually started from 60% speed only, speeding it up gradually.September 30, 2022 at 4:09 pm #53886biancakParticipantAh, I’m already in love with the Lacrimosa arrangement. Couldn’t imagine it on uke but sounds so great 🤩

I decided to challenge myself with rhythm this month. It’s definitely something I should focus on more to improve… Thanks for the arrangement. 🙂

I couldn’t decide on one piece only… so fiddled around with 2 of them…:D

(My previous submission doesn’t show…)
Imposter syndrome is at its max but I’m submitting Aura Lee this month
(I had a lot of fun trying to learn the 50s rock and blues but I didn’t and won’t get to recording level with that)
Aura Lee or Lea was one of the first pieces I learnt from Ukulele Mike / Michael Lynch not long after I first picked up the uke, so for his memory I played it in his style: downwards thumb strum throughout.June 30, 2022 at 5:35 pm #52490biancakParticipantI am a premium member
Crazy busy month with lots of travels, got reunited with my uke on Tuesday only… 😬
So many good arrangements again, was difficult to choose!May 31, 2022 at 2:50 pm #52189biancakParticipant@Andrew – thank you for your kind words. I think I’ll need to learn with some frustration this year while trying to step up a level in the challenges, and improve by learning the intermediate/ advanced songs. I’m enjoying learning them so much but I guess I’ll never feel comfortable playing while recording myself… especially not when I’m not sure yet about what I’m playing exactly…
But thanks a lot to you and the team for providing such a great variety of songs 🙂May 30, 2022 at 4:43 pm #52121biancakParticipantI AM A PREMIUM MEMBER
I aim to memorise the piece by the week before submission. Then I make a recording to see what it sounds like and what the obvious least ready parts are. However, this time I missed that week of polishing. 🙁
In my mind it already sounds good, but the sad reality is that the ringing of the notes is totally random (especially the bar 7-8 type of repeating part, especially when the 3 fingers are jammed), the rhythm is still very wobbly (haven’t even figured out what bar 22 actually is, so I just fought through…) and the whole piece could do with at least 2 more weeks of practice.
I had such a temptation to fall back on Yellow Submarine… but a half ready Let it be it is 🙂
Thanks for the challenge. It is a very nice arrangement! -
