September 18, 2022 at 1:47 pm in reply to: September 13, 2022 – Live Lesson: What Ukulele Can Do That Guitar Can’t #53682
AndrewKeymasterHi June, can you create an alert in your calendar on your phone that repeats monthly? We wouldn’t be able to create a notification within the live stream video as it’s an unlisted link.

AndrewKeymaster@johanna2509 – Bravo! Fantastic feel & groove throughout. In regards to the H/O’s & P/O’s, it looks like a strength issue (as you mentioned). Not a form issue. Form looks good. Try removing the chords and playing just the melody notes so you can focus on the technique.

AndrewKeymasterBoth of those work for low G 🙂

AndrewKeymasterOhh sorry! I misread the song last night. Thanks for pointing that out @katazumiri 🙂
For “Summertime Blues” you’ll want to substitute every open G for the G note on the 3rd fret, 2nd string. That’s the only change needed to play it on low G.

AndrewKeymasterOkay, I just played through it on my Low G. There’s only 1 note I’d change. It’s in bar 18 (19 in SS as SS counts the pick-up bar as 1). The 5th fret on string 4 (beat: & of 3). I’d move that up an octave to the 8th fret on string 2. I’d also sub the 5555 (F6) chord for x555 to make that section easier to play. Both of these changes Mark did in his video 🙂

AndrewKeymasterThat song should be fine on low G. You may have to change a note here or there, but you can reference Mark’s take above as he played it on low G and made some minor adjustments 🙂

AndrewKeymaster@tessiert – Playing sounds great, Trace. But I do want to point out that you changed the rhythm to:
1& 2 3& 4&
My performance was:
1 2& 3& 4&
Both sound great, just pointing it out in case you weren’t aware.
@sarahd – Beautiful performance!
@dividedsky – Lovely playing, Jane 🙂
@moonshine – That was an excellent performance! And your uke has a fantastic tone! I think you’re at the point where you can analyze this performance and target areas to polish. For example, in the first theme watch out for speeding up. Try playing with a click and tapping your foot along. This will help steady the tempo.Theme 3 is where the bulk of your practice will be. Try the thumb reach around for the first chord. It’s a really tough section to use an alternative fingering.
@maryjanew – Great start, MJ! Keep practicing 🙂September 1, 2022 at 2:12 pm in reply to: Participate in the August 2022 Member Challenge: WIN Bamboo Ukulele! #53470
AndrewKeymaster@leb397 – My pleasure! I’ll post the winner as a reply here. I only go live for the Kanile’a giveaways 🙂

AndrewKeymasterHere’s everyone on page 6.
@biancak – Beautiful playing on both tunes 🙂
@themccoys – Such a lovely take with excellent pacing. Well done, Emily!
@karenj – I think you nailed the vibe. Gorgeous view with playing to match 🙂Timing sounded fine to me. I wouldn’t worry too much about trying to keep it perfectly steady, this is a great one for playing with rubato.
@jeetmann – Excellent playing! I really enjoyed watching your performance 🙂
@nelsonlin2021 – Beautiful playing and thank you for the kind words, Nelson. I thought you did a great job with timing and the right hand pattern. Try playing the song every time you practice as a warm-up. That’ll reinforce the muscle memory for the right hand pattern, and before you know it, you’ll nail it each time 🙂
@leb397 – Beautiful playing on both tunes! There’s only two things I want to mention for FP Etude 13. First, double check the form as it sounds like you substituted bars 3 and 4 for later ones. Second, during the walk down melody, try not to lift pressure up immediately after playing the melody notes on the A string. I want to hear those notes sustain a bit more. And when you slide down/up from each note, don’t lift completely up. You want to keep contact with the string, but lightly touch it. The same way you would touch them to do a muted strum.
@santai – Welcome back, Marvin! Playing sounds great 🙂
@sylus9 – Excellent playing! Couple things I want to mention. Double check the form for the A melody. After the repeat, you want to jump from bar 4 to bar 9. Second, I want you to try looping 4 bars at a time. Play along to a metronome or the tab player in synthetic mode. Focus on timing and transitions. When you master the first 4, move on to the next 4, then piece the 8 together. Build the song this way.
@jbmills07 – Great playing! I’ve noticed that it’s sometimes harder to play slow than it is to play fast. I know, it sounds totally contradicting lol. But as you continue to practice, focus on going slower and I think that will also help you with transitioning from the first picking pattern to the second.August 31, 2022 at 4:48 pm in reply to: Participate in the August 2022 Member Challenge: WIN Bamboo Ukulele! #53454
