    Happy New Year!
Wow Holly, that was fast & smooth. Those Little Gems are loud and punchy. Looking forward to hearing more. Thanks for sharing and enjoy.

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the feedback and noted. I applied the 4 bar method to learning October’s challenge and I believe it was 6 bars at at time for November. I found this month’s song easier to remember. I am also trying to use a metronome or tab viewer for tempo training. But what really messes me up is hitting record. Seriously, I’ll play a song well or ok before recording but once I hit that button, it all falls apart. I believe others have experienced this phenomenon as well. I guess recording requires practice too. Cheers!

I keep trying to get these recordings done sooner. Anyway, here’s my attempt at House of….

I selected Sound of Silence and found it particularly challenging. I had a lot of issues, like many others. The transitions to and from the barred chords were tough despite practicing moving between them over & over. I also had major production issues. I’ll leave it at that. I have ok audio and slapped it onto bad video that I sped up. I tried to get a good take in costume. It’s best just to listed and not watch because it’s not synced. Now let’s see if I get my link to work.

I was all about Stranger Things this month even though I love John Williams. The theme to Jurassic Park is one of my faves.
I think I need to practice with a metronome a little more. My timing is a bit all over the place.

Thanks. I sort of understand. I see why that B is there because of the G chord. I guess the confusion for me is because I was looking at only the melody and not considering the other layers of the song. Hopefully one day it will make more sense.

Congratulation brettboy. I look forward to hearing you play the new uke in one of your videos as either melody or harmony.

Andrew, thank you for the feedback. The different chime has been helpful, for sure.

I have a question I have been meaning to ask. For Scarborough Fair in the Intro to Reading course, I noticed that the key signature had Bb indicated on the sheet music yet a Bb it is never played. A natural sign is before the only B I found in measure 4. Is it because the lesson only shows part of the full song and later on there will be Bb’s? I read through the unit covering Accidentals several times but am still scratching my head. Did I miss something?

    Thanks

Here’s my J-I-T entry. Enjoying the site reading course.
FYI, I’m playing on an Islander MC-4 Mahogany, which is next month’s giveaway. Not that I can make it sound as good as it can – yet. I really like it a lot. I’ll try to post up in next month’s challenge with a better recording.

Anybody else out there happy that February is over? I sure am.

    1) Execution – I will be working on developing feeling in my playing and getting back to basics with a strong emphasis on sticking to a practice schedule and participating on this site. I’m working through the blues. I’m trying to get a smooth 12 Bar Blues with back beat and to memorize and be able to slowly play at least half of EP003 Rhythm Blues with fill licks.

    2) Application – I am practicing as much as I can each day and that includes warm-ups & stretch. I am working with a practice sheet but still haven’t figure out how to best use it. I am learning 1 to 4 bars at a time and trying not to move on before I really have my hands in sync with my brain and visa-versa.

    3) Evaluation – I have included an evaluation section on my practice schedule. Ideally, I will record on Wednesdays to see how I am progressing. I will post when I can for feedback.

Challenges: My concert uke met with an untimely death. Luckily, I was given a banjolele this past Christmas, so I can keep playing. Because the banjolele has a unique sound I find it does not work with many of the selections at Rockclass101. The etudes sounded strange. I went with the Blues because it sounds the best with the banjolele. Now, if I can just control my playing and not twang it too much. I’m also working with some new recording methods and have taken video out of the process for the moment. I find it easier to just record my playing without the annoyance of video. I’ll get back to video when I’ve figure out how to work everything. I’ve taken on a bunch of new stuff but luckily have a little extra time on my hands right now so I hope I can stick to this and actively participate.

and it has been six months since my last submission. Really ?!!!
I have to do this more often. This was a good challenge with the switch up of pickking patterns. Here’s my dead version. I say that because, well, it’s a lifeless performance.
    Happy Halloween!

Oooh! I like this new feature. It’s a definite time saver and super easy to use. I’ve already set up a Holiday folder and one for other songs I’d like to learn. Thank you!!
