cinicholParticipant“Dazed and Confused” (Led Zepplin) Obviously just some slice of it 🙂
“Crowded Table” (The Highwomen) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPfI8zBWub4
“No Hard Feelings” (Avett Brothers) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aaU2HvRhCPw
Anything Beatles!
“Crazy” (Patsy Cline) I can hear this on my uke! It’s crying to come out!
“Clouds” (Joni Mitchell) The really slow later version
Some cool old hymn
“Like a Rolling Stone” (Dylan) I know; tricky. But hey. Or maybe “Tambourine Man.”
Anything that would make me sound like Stevie Ray Vaughan for three seconds? 😀
cinicholParticipantApologies for going off topic!
cinicholParticipantTo add to what I said above–I have seen artists such as Daniel Ho play in a way that made me feel that his uke was practically invented to do whatever song he happened to be playing, and by no one else but him. Maybe that’s just a sign of a good artist!
Come to think of it, the Uke Orchestra of Great Britain feels that way to me when they do “Psycho Killer” haha. Something about all the ukes in unison and the players’ serious expressions. I mean, they totally own it lol. Or maybe it’s just so funny it’s makes me elevate out of my chair.
cinicholParticipantThis may echo @lyndallk above, but I’m interested in how the triplet finger picking technique we learned in Oct. can be applied to other songs. I know the versatility of the form was one of the things you mentioned a couple times, Andrew, so I’m just curious how I might keep using and practicing it.
I second the motion for more low G 🙏🏼
Other than that, I really love the abundance at this site, so anything you cook up for the new year would be just more fabulousness to me!
I can’t sing worth a damn, so haven’t really checked out the lessons with singing. Wouldn’t mind encouragement to take more of a look, though. And YES to more women instructors–more diversity generally whenever possible is always welcome.
I hope someday to jump in and play spontaneously with friends of different abilities in different settings. One or more lessons here in Rock Class already address that, I know, so am hoping to check them out soon.
Thanks so much for the awesome site. I love all you guys.
Cindy NicholsP.S. I guess I could mention that I do really enjoy @nthibode’s playing and wouldn’t mind at all if she helped you out with some of the teaching 😊
P.P.S. Oh yeah, I’ve been wondering what music–genres, styles, modes, individual songs–you believe are especially suited to ukulele and why. It seems pretty obvious that the uke can handle nearly all kinds of music in some capacity, although sometimes, even with the dazzling virtuosos I hear on YouTube, it seems like the artist is stretching the instrument for the sake of stretching and the uke isn’t really shining so much as being tested. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, of course; but is there something truly special the uke does that no other instrument can do quite so well? Other than maybe the divine classic sound of Hawaii? Maybe a sort of cocktail of specific abilities? Apologies if this is already addressed somewhere!
cinicholParticipantWould dearly love “Fields of Gold” by Sting, though Eva’s cover may be definitive 😊
cinicholParticipantUpper MN and ND border. On the ND side especially, it’s the gulag haha. (Although honestly it’s also really beautiful up here. It does help to enjoy the sport of snowshoeing lol.)
cinicholParticipantlol Boy, I’m over the line, then, at 14 plus two duds! 😱 It really is bad. I do tell myself, well, some people buy boats or expensive trips or ultra high-end clothes. I buy ukes; so what? Anything that makes more music in this world can’t be bad, right? Pics soon!

cinicholParticipantAndrew, thanks much for “how to calm nerves” link.
Also, I can’t believe I fudged my right hand for the triplet form so badly at the start of my vid. I guess my nervousness was all focused on my left hand lol.

Hope this works.
I already posted a few minutes ago, but my upload didn’t work. I meant to come back with a smaller file or a YouTube file and edit my post, but I can’t find it!Anyway, here’s the link:
My original post included a long sad tale of no recording experience, some kind of buzz all over my audio, and absolutely raging stage fright. The performance anxiety makes me suddenly play like a complete nitwit.

Boy, I soooooo apologize for the horrible audio. Just as I did last month, I waited too long to practice recording (I basically know nothing), and this one came out with some electrical buzz in the background. Last month I didn’t even post, but I’m going to offer this one, as bad as it is, because the time is so late and I’m exhausted from a long week.
Also, Andrew, help! I have performance anxiety. I fall apart, become herky-jerky, sometimes my hands go utterly out of whack, and I can’t even play around my husband. I swear I’ve played this etude a thousand times pretty smoothly through, but if someone’s listening, I suddenly don’t know how to do anything. It’s pathetic.
Do you happen know an old Woody Allen movie–I think it was Annie Hall? In one scene, he’s so nervous trying to put a record on a turntable, it shoots straight out of his hand across the room from the tension LOL. Well, that’s how it is with me. I did takes on this recording in which my hands just utterly fell apart. My finger pressure shifts and sometimes the fretboard suddenly looks like something I’ve never laid eyes on.
I hope it’s ok enough to count.
You’ve probably never had such a nervous wreck of a student.
I will study your recording tips for next month, and just practice recording myself a million times, plus play a million times in front of the hubster. Or maybe I should just seek therapy.
EDIT: oops, I see now that my file didn’t upload. I’ll come back and try again!

cinicholParticipantThat was really killer. Just beautiful.
cinicholParticipantAny updates on these gadgets? Do you like any better or worse?
cinicholParticipantI have a concert Rebel mango and love it. I love their styling and feel, very beautiful workmanship, and sounds great. Still breaking him in. Seems extra petite for a concert.
cinicholParticipantI think maybe Daniel Ho, because I like jazz (Miles Davis, Weather Report, Hiromi,
Coltrain, Holly Cole, lots more). Haven’t yet heard a really dedicated jazz uke player. Anyone know one? Also Feng because he always looks so fully inside of it. -
