Thanks Andrew. I’ll try to be patient lol. You’ve got the best learning site on the web by miles.

Apologies if this has been asked 9,874,546,432 times before, but…any chance we could see next month’s challenge early? 🤓

@Andrew Thanks Andrew! I actually know how to use the search function, but just assumed the song hadn’t been done because I never saw it. Forgot that I “took off” a few months—ok, a year haha— to work 🙄. And wasn’t here at the very start. And so missed it.

Ok. I’m going to have a packed month, but I’d like to try “Uke Blues” from last February’s challenge.

I think I’m only a seasoned beginner, so it may be a ways out of reach for me. But my goal is to play at least part of it, slowly, well, and in time. I don’t like herky-jerky, out-of-time playing, so I’ll be working on steady rhythm, no matter how slow. (Hell, I like mellow blues, so maybe it’ll even sound nice! lol).

I don’t yet know how much I’ll be able to do; I’ll have to start learning it to tell. But I’ll be happy if I can simply play any part of it and actually sound really good (as opposed to heroically getting through the whole piece while sounding awful).

If things are going well, my additional goal is to learn how to record better.

    To reach my goals:

    1) I’ll be using an online metronome, I think quite a lot.
    2) I’ll watch/review any lessons on a) good execution (hitting notes clearly), and b) accomplishing any nasty barr chords. I have recurring tendonitis, so want to test how much I can stretch without irritation. I expect that I may need to find substitute chords now and then if flares up too badly. I want to avoid that, but if I have to, so be it–as long as my playing is smooth, stays in time, and sounds good.)
    3) I’ll study class tips on recording.

    Schedule:

Boy, that’s hard to know, because I’ll be teaching new classes this spring and unsure how buried I’ll be. Also, I just don’t know how hard the song will be.

I guess I’ll aim for a good several bars per week–just some nice-sounding lick or two? (what exactly constitutes a lick, by the way?)–and possibly revise my expectations once I really get into it. It’s going to be an insane month, so I have to set the quantity bar low.

    Evaluation:

With each week’s lick, I’ll report on whether it “sounds good” to me and ask others if it sounds good to them. That will be the main criterion: happy ears 😊👂🏻🙉

Ok. I think that’s it! I totally welcome any and all feedback, Andrew! Thank you for everything!

This is simply a fantastic site, the best for clarity, detail, organization, pace, resources, breadth, depth, and friendliness.

I’d love to see much more for u-bass, but, honestly, I love it all and wish I had FAR more time to spend here!

    Happy New Year, Andrew!

@andrew So sorry for my many recent questions. Here’s a pretty dumb one: could I sub “St. James Infirmary” for the Nov. challenge? I really wanted to learn that, but spent all my time on pinky palooza in “Walking Dead” this month.lol

If you want everyone to be consistent, I certainly nderstand.

As I’m about to start my second challenge here in Nov.(beginner), I’m wondering how much time to spend on the challenges vs. the lessons and other components of RockClass. I had been doing a combination of lessons and songs, then started the Oct. challenge, and found it absorbed all my attention for a month. Or I should say, the first hard chord change with pinky finger in The Walking Dead theme took all my attention!

I’m wondering how most students divide their time. I definitely need to work on timing and basic techniques, and I actually enjoy that, but it’s hard (for me) not to get a wee bit obsessed with a challenge.

Many appologies if this question is already answered somewhere. I did a quick review all around the site, but did not find this specific issue. I’m probably overlooking it!

Does the 5000kb size only apply to files actually uploaded to RockClass (meaning links to YouTube over that size are ok?)?

    I AM A PREMIUM MEMBER

Hope this works! Kind of a weird, low-key version. A mechanical noise in the background doesn’t help, and then my knee bumped something right at the end.

    Electric with reverb!
    Here Ya Go
The pinky move was really hard for me, and it’s still hit or miss. Pisses me off! lol I’ve tried adjusting in various ways and hope my finger would get stronger and maybe it has. But still not reliable.

Oh yeah, I shortened the piece up for practice, then decided just to leave it that way.

    Here’s another as well:

And one on soprano. Sorry, I just could not decide!!

Andrew, is there any chance you’ll be including Ubass in these challenges at some point? I would so love that!
