deadbuggyParticipant@ldarrow, I find the mandolin and the uke two entirely different beasts. The tuning is different so chord shapes are not the same. For me, it’s harder to play the mandolin — metal strings, smaller fret board and finicky to keep in tune. But I love how it sounds and it’s been rewarding to learn something new.
The other challenge is that mandolins are expensive. Most budget friendly for a good instrument is around $500 – 600 — the Kentucky line of instruments are very good, as are Eastmans.

deadbuggyParticipantI’ve always thought of this tune as a lovely ballad…maybe because I’m a Detroit Tiger fan? 😉

deadbuggyParticipantMeet the Oops Oops Band! RC101 members coffeemug, little george and I have been pals for more than 50 years. We all started playing the uke a few years ago and use the magic of technology to bridge the miles between Ohio, Michigan and Colorado. The RC101 song book is one of our go-to sources for pieces we can adapt to our …. uh….skills 🙂 We worked this one up a couple of years ago and are proud to present it now to kick off this years’s Kanile’a Challenge. Happy strumming!

deadbuggyParticipant@grannieannie I’ve played string instruments for 50 years; mostly self-taught. As my arthritic hands, fingers and wrists continue a pace, smaller instruments like the uke keep me in a musical happy place. Thanks for the kind words!

deadbuggyParticipantThis is not for entry — I have enough ukuleles! So glad Ukulele Waltz was among the selections this month. I’ve had the A part memorized for years, but only in the last few months began to work on the B part. Alas, the complete brain fart at the end is not indicative of my mastery of this tune 😉

deadbuggyParticipantTwo from me this month. Cowboy Dreaming is an original piece that owes it’s existence to RC101 lessons. I ‘noodled’ with hammer-ons and slides; found inspiration in an old David Crosby/Graham Nash song called ‘Cowboy of Dreams’; I arranged it using the Melody to Harmony of Andrew’s Mini Lesson. And the title is a combo of Crosby/Nash and Hardel!
And here’s my version of Aloha Dreaming which is an awesome song. Many thanks Andrew and crew!
