@grannieannie I love your added personal challenge, going with your first recording. I always get a little stressed when it’s time to record, and then make mistakes I wouldn’t normally make in practice. And I usually end up doing a million takes (and often one of my earlier versions was the best anyway). Your idea also lends to appreciating music in the moment, instead of chasing after an elusive perfection that is maybe less authentic anyway. Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂
Hi Everyone! Such a great challenge! Here’s my plan:
1) Execution – I will be working on learning how to play a tune using a glass slide.
2) Application – Play the version of the traditional blues song Betty and Dupree that appeared in a Ukulele Magazine article by Fred Sokolow.
3) Evaluation – Regular practice to learn and play the piece as written. Record and post result.
Looking forward to hearing the wide variety of submissions! 🙂

@janaq1 Wow, that was so well done…just beautiful! I had also picked Summertime initially, but after two weeks of practicing, I knew I couldn’t get it to performance level by the end of the month, so I switched tunes 🙂 Your playing is so impressive!

Happy Holidays, Everyone! I am submitting O Come All Ye Faithful. I feel so grateful to have found Rock Class 101. In addition to providing extraordinary lessons and motivation for all levels of learners, I quickly understood that this site really has heart. Darn…missed the deadline! I waited to post until the last day of the month so I could get in as much practice as possible. Then, of course, had technical difficulties that had never occurred before during last minute upload. Lesson learned! Wanted to share Etude 29, anyway, since I worked on it all month. Very enjoyable! Thanks, Andrew, for the great tune! 🙂
After listening to all of the etudes, I narrowed my choices down to three, and then ultimately chose Number 29. It’s a really lovely piece…enjoying it very much!

I think I aimed a bit higher than my skill level on this one. I practice everyday, and it’s so fun to watch the progress in the beginning, with the leaps and bounds of improvement. But then I hit a plateau, and can’t seem to get the piece to that flawless state. Anyway, here is my attempt at Blue Moon, stumbles and all. 🙂 Thanks to Andrew and Steven…it’s a great song to learn and play!
I loved A Duet from the Heart the moment I heard it, and it was fun to play with a backing track. I couldn’t stop smiling when I finally made it to 100% speed, although I still only get the triplets right about 1 out of 10 times 🙂 Thanks to Andrew for the beautiful song, and to Steven for the great lesson…super fun!
