Hi Andrew and RC101 gang-

I am currently learning Helen’s Theme from Candyman for the monthly challenge. The third measure of Theme 2 calls for picking the low G at the 10th fret. I am playing an A Nue Nue tenor which otherwise sounds great, but this one note is as dead as a doornail. I’ve checked the height of the frets and the tenth is fine, not high. The uke arrived from the vendor with a High G set, pretty thin strings, and the low G string sits on top of the slot rather than in it. Could this be causing the dead note? Or any other ideas? Do I need to find a luthier to fix this, or is it something I need to live we when using this uke with a low G?

Hi Uke friends,

This month I chose House of the Rising Sun, it was very much fun to learn, though still only about 80% speed. The harmonic at the end foiled me on every single attempt to record. Looking forward to that lesson in the Pathways course.:)

Everybody’s entries are so good! This has been a fun challenge, as has been working through the new course, thank you Andrew!

There have been so many beautiful and fun performances this month! @marianne and @gi_gi_ ‘s performances of Gymnopédie are so lovely and inspiring! One day…

This month I chose Fingerpicking Etude No. 19, aka Song 3 in the intermediate level of the course, focusing on barre and stretch chords. While I made progress on both over the month, I have a ways to go. Probably should have picked something less challenging! I just loved Theme 4 and how it sounds like demented carousel music and had to try and learn it!

@brettboy I am so sorry to hear about your wrist injury. Wishing you a quick recovery and looking forward to seeing you back at it in September.

Hello uke friends,

This month I chose Sakura Sakura. I found it really hard to memorize, and wonder if it was due to being unused to the sound of the pentatonic scale. It somehow didn’t flow together in my brain…quite challenging, in a good way.

@leb397 Thank you for the welcome, Louisa! I never really left, have been lurking and letting my elbow injury heal, then took some time to get back up to speed before trying another challenge. It meant a lot to me to be able to post a challenge again after 8 months and hope I can stay healthy and keep it going! Your Travis picking sounds beautiful, very soothing and peaceful, and you look so relaxed. Looing forward to hearing your lullabies. Congrats on your new granddaughter!!

This month I chose to learn the rhythm part to Spanish Days. Like anyon1, I added chunking to the left hand muting. It was fun to play, though getting the timing right with the backing track took many attempts!

Thanks for your help, Andrew, it’s working again. It worked fine in Firefox, so I went back and reloaded Chrome on my PC and it worked after that. I need to make a habit of rebooting and/or clearing the cache more often. I think that must have been all it was.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for responding. I am using a PC running Windows 10 (incompatible for update to 11) so that might be the issue right there, the timing works. I use Chrome and haven’t experimented with any other browser but can try that too.
