jody_hendricksonParticipantHi all-
I really loved Andrew’s Little Trouble in Big China among this month’s lovely selections. I eventually worked up to 90% speed, and made a 90% backing track using the Transcribe! software that Andrew had recommended (Thank you!) I’d like to work on improving dynamics and expression, as always.

Loved everyone’s entries this month, thank you!

jody_hendricksonParticipantMini lesson months are always fun! I chose Minor Blues Jam, it really appealed to me and was fun to play with the backing track. Thanks Andrew and RC101 teachers for creating so many awesome lessons for us. It’s always hard to narrow it down to just one to focus on for the month! So many songs, so little time…:)

jody_hendricksonParticipantHi all-
I worked on Cielito Lindo this month (no vocals!), only got to about 70% speed so far. For some reason I had a hard time memorizing this one, hence the many hesitations.
Loved listening to everyone’s entries, and definitely going to take a stab at the clawhammer course, looks very fun!Best,

jody_hendricksonParticipantThanks for your feedback, Andrew! I will definitely keep working on On the Boardwalk, and do the targeted practice you suggest for the sticky parts. Hope you are having a great summer!

jody_hendricksonParticipantHello Uke friends-
This month I chose to work on Under the Boardwalk, a perfect summer song, and I love Steve’s arrangement. It was a big stretch for me, and I need another month to get it closer to speed and with fewer stumbles and hesitations. But this is where it’s at now, slow and bumbling!
I loved watching all your entries, great work, everyone! Thank you!
Warmly,

jody_hendricksonParticipantHi Andrew and all,
All the mini lessons were so great, it was hard to choose. Here are my takes on One Finger Etude and Feel Good Strumming. As many have said, both were really satisfying to learn and to play. Thanks as always, Andrew, for all the amazing content at Rock Class 101.

jody_hendricksonParticipantHi @seattlesteve68-
Greetings from a fellow Seattle-ite.
Is this the lesson you are looking for?
I found it through the link in the Friday newsletter. I usually use the search box on the “Ukelele Songs” page, but you need to know at least some of the words in the song title. There is also a menu on that page to sort by category (level and type of music). Having said that, I could not find this lesson using the search function by title or mini-lesson number, so maybe there is a glitch. Generally, I can always find what I’m looking for by searching some part of the title.

jody_hendricksonParticipantHi gang-
I’m really enjoying all the Funk Month submissions! Here is my best take so far on Rhythmic Variations. All the little details were quite challenging to put together, and I think my performance sounds a bit lifeless, but I’m going to keep working at it to speed/perk it up.
Please pardon my super squeaky new G string!! Yikes!Best,

jody_hendricksonParticipant@leb397 and @the_bumble_bard I’m also working on Rhythmic Variation EP010 in case Funk Jam doesn’t get there by the end of the month (likely!). I agree that my “slap” makes a much less distinct sound than we hear in the lesson. I do it with my fingertips/nails, landing between the strings for the subsequent pluck.
I spent a ridiculous amount of time learning the first measure of Funk Jam. Clapping, singing, and counting the 16th notes all helped but it was only by listening to it on loop as well that it finally clicked. Once it did, it suddenly made sense. So many challenges in this piece, but super-fun. I really appreciate how methodical Andrew is in giving us several way to look at the rhythms. I watched that part of the lesson so many times!

jody_hendricksonParticipantThanks, Andrew! I’d be lost without the tab player for learning this. The looping feature is great for the listening reps I really need to sort out the rhythm measure by measure. ! Don’t know how far I’ll get with this, but loving the challenge.
Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone!

jody_hendricksonParticipantHey Andrew-
If I want to attempt Funk Jam on a low-G ukelele, since I don’t have a baritone, what are the adjustments that need to be made because of the different tuning? I realize that if I have to ask this question I probably shouldn’t be attempting this piece, but I really like it and want to take a stab at it.
Thanks!

jody_hendricksonParticipantHello Andrew and all-
All the selections were so beautiful it was hard to choose. As I really wanted to practice arpeggio strumming I chose Etude No. 32. The strums are still pretty clunky but better than before learning this piece! My left hand went off script at measure 21 so pardon that. Everyone did such a great job this month, congrats! Thanks, Andrew, for all your lovely and fun-to-play original etudes.
Best,
Jody
