johanna2509Participant@annemarie, @leb397, @gi_gi_ Thank you so much for the kind words! π I consider to record the audio via pick up more often in the future, the ability to add effects like reverb is nice and the recording is much louder.
@The_Bumble_Bard I felt the emotions of your description about imperfection in your performance. I had similar feelings when listening to the original song for the first time. Good job on capturing those emotions and the rubato! ππ-

johanna2509Participant@The_Bumble_Bard Thank you so much for the kind words! ππ Ha, I actually made a mistake in the video recording in the last bar (I don’t know what my brain is doing sometimes). π I recorded the Outro again and cut the video. π

Hi all!
Despite La Bamba being the most suited for low G, I decided to go for βWhat Was I Made For?β because it is such a beautiful arrangement. I love the chorus with the harmonics. πβ€ I tried to adapt it for low G with the same changes that @marianne made for her baritone, but it didn’t make much sense on a high G because the low g string was omitted so many times. Maybe next month I can play my new low G uke for the challenge! π
This month I recorded audio and video seperately, because I wanted to add a reverb effect like @marianne, I liked it so much, her performance is beautiful. π I experimented with different settings, because the pick up picks up everything, even the slightest noise from moving the fingers over the strings.
When recording the video, the rubato made it difficult to play it exactly like the previous recorded audio. π I could record outside with all the dogs barking though. π-

johanna2509Participant@Andrew The Flight Diana ukulele from the February Challenge arrived today! It has such a lovely tone, I am so happy with it! π Couldn’t wait to finish work today and play it. π
Since it has a low g string, I wanted to ask which of the arrangements for June is best suited for low g? I wanted to go with “What Was I Made For?”, but it has a few melody notes on the g string… I guess it could be adapted, but I am not sure. π€May 19, 2024 at 12:08 pm in reply to: Participate in the May 2024 Challenge: Double Kanile’a Giveaway ($5,800) #61663

I am working on βWhere is My Mind?β this month. Again, RC101 has showed me a song I’ve never heard before and made me fall in love with it. ππ
I noticed that I played some parts a bit faster than Steven, mostly in the outro. But I felt like I couldn’t hold that partial barre with the index finger any longer so I speeded up, haha π In general the tune feels like a workout for the index finger, because of the intro, the outro and that awkward shape in bars 25 and 27. π
I am so glad that I managed to get a recording without any major mistakes… playing almost 3 mins straight without any brain freezes and the camera recording is hard. π
Not quite happy with the hammer-on and pull-off parts in section D in that take, but well… it’s always easier when the camera isn’t watching. π
johanna2509Participant@The_Bumble_Bard yea, would be actually nice to avoid posting on the forum, but well π I’ve attached a screenshot of the mail address. This way it’s harder for someone to automatically grab email addresses (I hope so at least π )

johanna2509Participant@The_Bumble_Bard Unfortunately, I don’t have Instagram (or any other social media platforms except YT π ) Maybe email then or phone number based messengers?
Aw, a drawing from you would be super cool! π
johanna2509Participant@The_Bumble_Bard Thanks! I would send you one for free, if you want. π (The shipping costs from Germany to the US can’t be that high for a such a little envelope π )
I am so looking forward to your comic, if you make another one! It’s going to be hilarious, that’s for sure π
And thank you, @gi_gi_!

johanna2509Participant@The_Bumble_Bard Thank you so much! π I have actually thought about selling them on Etsy, but first I need to try to get a higher quality of the print. Like adjusting print temperature and print speed, all that effects the quality. Aaand I have to learn how to sell on Etsy. Shooting nice product photos, pricing, packaging, shipping to different countries… there’s a lot to consider. π But I have other design ideas, so maybe in the future I am confident to open an Etsy shop.
I completely agree with what you said about the simplicity! That’s also a reason why I picked up the uke. Because four strings seemed less intimidating than six haha. π But still with “limited” strings and range, it sounds as beautiful.
johanna2509ParticipantSooo, recently I submitted my masters thesis and I am finally done studying! Now I have more time to be creative again. π
I designed and 3d printed a little ukulele keychain, I think it looks so cute! π I used a special filament which has three colours, so the different sides of the printed object have different colours. It is the first prototype, maybe I’ll make some adjustments, e. g. the hole for the key ring could be bit bigger.
@The_Bumble_Bard It feels kinda awkward to reply with such a huge delay haha. π But thank you so much for your kind words about my drawings! I didn’t get the dragon as a tattoo, because I am too afraid of it haha. Afraid that I will not like it anymore in a few years and afraid of the pain. I thought about a very small one behind my ear though, like a little note or clef. But still too much of a commitment.(Oh, and I studied civil engineering.)
I am still so surprised that you create some of your digital drawings with the touch pad and MS paint. They look so good and realistic!! π

Hi all!
This month has been a bit chaotic. I started learning the 4/4 Waltz and got melody A up to speed. But melody B was so tricky because of all the barre chords… especially bars 19-20. π My fingers get so tired from the previous bars so that the notes are not ringing clearly. I realized I won’t be able to get a good recording. So I decided to switch to the Fingerpicking Etude no. 13. I liked jumping up and down the neck.
Here it is, after two days of practicing. π

johanna2509ParticipantI’ve chosen the Flight Diana Tenor with a low G π. As I live in Germany, I’ll probably have to wait a while for it to arrive. I’m looking forward to playing all the low G arrangements with it π.
@gi_gi_ Haha but I don’t want to imagine custom fees for like a Kanile’a model π .-

johanna2509ParticipantWow, I am so excited! π Now this is a hard decision I have to make, so many lovely ukes to choose from π I can’t decide between the Flight Diana Tenor and the Ohana TK-70R. Both look and sound beautiful. And then I have to decide whether it should be Low or High G. I don’t have a Low G tenor yet, so maybe this is the opportunity to get one.

johanna2509ParticipantHi all!
I don’t find much time to practice ukulele at the moment (I’ve started to lose my callouses π’), but I managed to recorded Matt’s Lullaby for this month today. It is one of my favorite RC101 arrangements and it kinda turned into my warm up routine. After listening to Matt’s performance today, I noticed that I play some sections in a different tempo π In the recording, I tried to stick more to Matt’s version, but that was quite tricky after playing it with different feels and tempos for such a long time π
However, here is my version:
