Rickeymike – Are you talking about the Luna Bari-Bass, specifically? As I understand it, this is pretty much the same thing as the Kala U-Bass, right? If that’s what you’re looking at, it’s a completely different animal than any ukulele, and learning to play one is more like learning to play a bass guitar. If this is something that interests you, and you think you would enjoy learning to play it, and the money is not an issue, then I say go for it! I’ve been wanting a U-Bass for years… but I don’t have the time to learn something new right now (learning the uke is keeping me plenty busy). Plus, I think my next purchase should go towards a really nice ukulele. But I still think it would be fun to have a U-Bass (or Bari-Bass) sitting around to play with when I feel like mixing things up.

Let us know what you decide to do. If you get it, I want to see lots of videos showcasing your progress.

Does the Low G tuning for Kemp’s Jig just a matter of tuning, or does it require a special set of Low G stings? I know I can probably just Google this, but I thought others might have the same question.

    Congrats rufio!!!!!!!

Stephen – thank you for the feedback and guidance. Extremely helpful and greatly appreciated! I didn’t realize I was bending my wrist so much. I’ll definitely pay attention to that and work on it, as well as the hammer-ons!

becky7777 – Thanks for the review. I just ordered one. For the price, it’s worth a try. And I love gadgets. I’ll let you know how it works for me.

Andrew – Thank you so much for encouragement regarding “the nerves” as well as the feedback and hammer on tips! I will certainly practice this. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy this site, and how much I really appreciate all the personal attention. Your monthly challenges have certainly pushed me to improve and I honestly think they are helping me get beyond that beginner’s plateau.

Cornishdpt – It’s mind boggling for me to watch you play! I tried to play right handed at first, and that just didn’t work well at all. So I restrung the uke and now play a mirror-image of what I see, which is really not all that difficult once you get used to it. But to flip the uke and basically play it upside down, well, thinking about it hurts my brain. Kudos to you! Great job!

Ah, once again time’s up! Here’s my entry –

I apologize up front for all the imperfections. I will keep practicing. If I could just master the art of performing in front of the camera. I swear, once the camera’s on everything locks up, my fingers instantly turn three times their normal size and my brain shuts down. Oh well, I’m sure that I’m not alone. Anyway, this was a ton of fun and I’m really excited that I was able to learn this one! I had my doubts. And it’s been a thrill watching everyone’s submissions. You all are great! I’m just glad this is a challenge and not a competition!

becky7777 – Thanks for sharing this. I might give it a try. My metronome is really loud and sometimes too much. The reviews on Amazon and Sweetwater are pretty good, and the sale price is from Peterson is better than anywhere else I’ve found.

Plus, this is something I could use when recording my performance for the monthly member challenge!

I’m still relatively new to all of this, but what seems to work best for me is to print the music and then watch the video tutorial and make all kinds of notes on my music printout, especially regarding which finger to use on the fretboard. At times the video instruction will go against what is instinctive for me regarding finger placement, but after practicing as instructed in the video, it makes sense.
