miztakenParticipantWell… that test is a bit weird!
This morning I could hear up to 19, but not 15…?!?!
miztakenParticipantWow, interesting little test.
I can barely hear 12khz, and only managed to hear that after I watched the blue slider to recognise when it was playing.
No wonder the Princes Highway just sounds like waves 😁
miztakenParticipantI haven’t bothered with one in Sydney, but I have changed my practice since getting my eucalele: all ukes now live in their cases if in the lounge area or upstairs. And if I take a break during practice, they go back into the case again.
Downstairs in the dungeon, it is more stable so my Bohemian uke sits on it’s end just looking good.
miztakenParticipantWelcome Holly – now you can learn what you want to, and join the other “mutes” (can’t sing).
It is such a lot of fun, and the compositions Andrew teaches are wonderful.
miztakenParticipantHi Dea, welcome to everything wonderful you can learn here.
Flick Andrew an email too, it may be something to with the recent site upgrade, or perhaps your membership hadn’t quite completed in the system.February 16, 2019 at 6:03 pm in reply to: Participate in the February 2019 Member Challenge – Music Reading Course! #25141
miztakenParticipant@mariainct – get a strap!
I am short, curvy, chesty, and I have straps on the majority of my ukes (definitely on the ones I play most). It makes it soooooo much easier to control.
Put a strap button on the bottom centre of the body PLUS one on the underside curve of the heel. See the pics attached. These were put on by Mike@UkeRepublic – so I “know” they are perfect.
The body has good timber reinforcement at this point (I discovered that on my curved fibreglass Aeirsi concert uke).
Make sure you use a drill bit ONE SIZE SMALLER than the screw, so that it grips the wood.
Don’t bother with the tie at the head, it just gets in the way (although I see a lot of people manage with it. But with little hands it hurts).
miztakenParticipantWelcome Maria!!
…sounds like Sydney 🙁February 6, 2019 at 5:35 pm in reply to: Participate in the January 2019 Member Challenge – You Decide What To Work On! #24925

miztakenParticipantThanks Andrew!
Awesome feedback – I am naturally NOT a speedy type person, so slowing down to work on dynamics etc which you mentioned is wonderful (I so loved Nathalie’s submission).
It will be more fun to make things pretty and interesting rather than faster. And putting emotion and delicacy into my playing can be my new challenge.
I will be returning to Chopsticks with a new perspective – and to create an improved ear-worm for my husband.
Thank you.
miztakenParticipantI love the Living Water strings too, and will be going back to them (currently on Worths which luthier put on my instruments).
I also have a Living Water low G set to be put onto a uke.
miztakenParticipantTenor = size of uke, usually set up with high G.
You can definitely change it to a low G.February 2, 2019 at 10:54 pm in reply to: Participate in the February 2019 Member Challenge – Music Reading Course! #24844
miztakenParticipant… thought I could take on this challenge, but after a look at what is required from me – the tears and panic say otherwise 😀
So, definitely not up to this… yet.
I shall be watching, and enjoying everyone’s performance: Go Team!January 30, 2019 at 12:32 am in reply to: Participate in the January 2019 Member Challenge – You Decide What To Work On! #24780
miztakenParticipant@nthibode that is so darn pretty!!!
Both songs are so delicate! Wow.(I should not have viewed them. You cannot compare the music of a hobbit to that of an elf!!!)

miztakenParticipantJanuary Challenge Final Submission Update “CHOPSTICKS” beginner level.
GOAL:
Achieved 75% speed – actually play it at about 80-85%, consistently with minor errors. I have even started playing at 90%, but at this speed my fingering and playing is still muddy and error prone.PLAN:
Practice “Chopsticks” between 1 to 4 hours per day – achieved 25 out of 29 days, including practicing at the airport in Atlanta!!! Now that is dedication!!!APPLICATION:
Triplets have dropped off the radar as I practice Chopsticks, Etude #5 and Brahm’s Lullaby. I am struggling with Brahm’s Lullaby – it has some tricky fingering.
Routine practice schedule maintained 16 days out of 29 – holiday and travelling has limited this. But on the improvement side: I now only spend about 1/2 hour on exercises, techniques, exudes and songs because I “get it” in 1-3 attempts. Time to add new stuff here.I had fun recording today’s video in the rock lined waterfall shower in our room at Madonna Inn, SAN Luis Obispo. Great acoustics for recording on my iPad mini!!!
