@andrew Roger. Wilco. Thanks for the feedback. I will follow your suggestions as I develop the piece. Rhythm has always been a challenge for me. Really enjoying my time with your School.

A busy June for me. I was able to give the Billie Eilish tune a go. Lots of terrific submissions. So nice to be a part of this community for musicians developing their craft.

One thing I looked at with all the “What Wads I Made For” submissions is the various left hand thumb positions… interesting.

Thank You RC101 and everyone who performed for the June Challenge

Here is my PREMIUM MEMBER May submission.
Going to Califiornia at 75% speed.
It took more than 40 hours of practice to get it to this
point. Still lots of warts and freckles and flubs and timing issues. Lots of work, lots of fun, lots of learning.

As usual everyone worked hard and I love listening to all of your submissions. Kudos to all.

Andrew’s Creation…Bella Vita. This lovely piece took a LOT of practice for me to play reasonably well.Still a ways to go. Measure 6 was tough.

I am a Premium member. April Challenge.
Hope I didn’t wait too late. You Tube says it won’t go public until 9 PM. Another Month of hard work, growth and excellent performances by all. Rock Class 101 Rocks.

THANK YOU Stephen Cox for the enriching and informative private session. The discussion about Rhythm and Groove was helpful. Thanks for the tips and the links.

Bourre was a challenge. I have loved the piece since teen years when I wanted to be Ian Anderson. To play the piece on Uke and Bass revealed a lot about right hand technique-alternating index and middle fingers. I plan to continue correcting old habits and learning proper fingering next month with Etude #26 …Travis picking.

I do not have the technology skills or software to play both parts in one video (as Marianne did in the spectacular performance of Valse Venezano) so I used a loop pedal so I could do a duet for one.

RC101 continues to provide the instruction and development opportunities I need. I am very impressed by all the hard work and the spectrum of ability that is here. Thank you one and all.

@morrieuke1 What a wonderful composition. I have listened several times. Lots of emotion and I particularly like the high part around 2:05. I saw the light. Thank You.

    Hello Andrew et al:

The January Challenge was just that …Challenging.
    Goals:
    – Become familiar with RC101 facilities.
    – learn two lesson tunes
    – get to know the community

The path was steep. The selected tunes were a stretch for me. Thankfully, the video instruction was detailed and thorough. SoundSlice was helpful by slowing the samples down.
Many hours of daily practice and repetition caused a mid-month left hand cramp that lasted for 5 days. Probably the result of some of the fret reaches that I was not accustomed to.

I am impressed by the quality of musicianship that RC101 participants possess. Truly a dedicated group of ukulele players who want to grow and improve their skills. Awesome.

I look forward to getting to know you all better and hearing what you have to offer.
I look forward to letting Fur Elise and Freight Train take a rest. I will revisit in the future.

    Peace

Here we are Jan. 16th, two weeks to get the goals advanced. I may have been a bit aggressive in my self challenge, picking two pieces to work on. Fur Elise is coming along and I should have a more fluid version before January ends. Freight Train is more involved particularly in the strumming patterns and how different the B section is from A and C. I am enjoying getting ti know you guys and hearing your ukulele journeys. Lots of practice hours…good thing it is January and work is slow. Persistence.

here is a link to Fur Elise:

CORRECTION….I will work on the RC101 lesson “Freight Train” NOT “Folsom Prison Blues” for the January Challenge.

Freight Train is in the Lesson Bank, Folsom Prison is not.

I have already benefitted from and have become familiar with RC101 by reviewing left and right hand technique basics video lessons…good stuff. Links to lessons inside lessons are user friendly…easy to use.

    Hello RC101 Challenge-

I am a new member of the community. My goal for January is to learn how to use the RC101 facilities by completing two lessons from the curriculum. I have decided on 2 “F” pieces: “Fur Elise” and “Folsom Prison Blues”. A classical piece and a country tune that may show the versatility of our beloved little four string instrument.

EXECUTION – First I will listen to both lessons in entirety, then I will commit 30 minutes daily of practice to each piece for the entire month. While using the lessons, I will navigate the tools and buttons to become familiar with how RC101 works.

APPLICATION – While I primarily have been focused on notation, I see that RC101 uses Tablature. This will help me become more familiar with Tabs. I use low 4th string for the most part and will include a high G instrument from time to time.

EVALUATION – I will keep a practice log with comments as the month progresses. I will video some early-month, mid-month and end-month practices to determine progress. The goal is not perfection in the pieces (I do hope to become proficient in both) but a more solid understanding of how to best use RC101.
