nerdjenniParticipantHello,
Here’s my White Christmas entry. Thought I would try to sing along for an extra challenge, plus it’s hard to play a christmas carol and NOT sing along 🙂I AM A PREMIUM MEMBER.
Happy holidays everyone!

nerdjenniParticipantHappy Thanksgiving! Here’s my submission for this month. Not perfect, but the song was fun to learn and I don’t think I would have picked it if not for this challenge. I am grateful for these challenges because they keep me playing even when things get busy!

nerdjenniParticipantHey @jinajupiter cool thanks for sharing. I have been planning a uke purchase and didn’t really think I needed one with a jack (don’t see myself playing for anyone buy myself anytime soon!), but this is an interesting reason. I almost always practice after the kids and spouse are asleep.

nerdjenniParticipant@lyndallk and @cyukug – they sound great! very inspiring to hear more advanced players and their submissions. here is my newbie submission on sound of silence. plenty of mistakes here (i swear, my fingers get all nervous when i hit the record button), but the song is there. been a very busy october full of work travel so i’ve only had these past few days to play around with it.

nerdjenniParticipantHi – random question, but I noticed some people have something clipped to their ukes. Is that a tuner? If so, what is purpose of having it clipped on the entire time (versus just using it for tuning and taking it off)? I’ve seen some youtube videos of professionals who also have it on during their performances, so I figure there must be a purpose that is alluding me? Thanks! Just really really curious…

nerdjenniParticipantOk so I already submitted a previous post for this month, but I wanted to challenge myself to giving the Five Foot Two song a shot. It is well beyond my skill level (I’ve just started playing the uke last month), but after driving my spouse crazy playing it over and over again, I’ve managed to get through the full song. I can only play it at half the tempo, and with plenty of mistakes, but here’s my best shot.
@andrew, I think I’ve also managed to get the Claw sounding more separated than before. Thanks for the great challenge! I am a premium member.

nerdjenniParticipantAlright, I gave it my best shot. I’m a newbie and went for the Strumming class challenge (1 exercise from each lesson). Listening to it over again though, I realize that the “claw” sound is not really coming through. It doesn’t sound all that different from a regular strum. I’ve watched the instructional video several times, but not sure how to make the strings sound more separated?
nerdjenniParticipantThanks both! I just read and watched the content on Learning Paths and how to practice. Super helpful! I downloaded your spreadsheet and created my own practice agenda. I think it is going to make a big difference!
nerdjenniParticipantHi @Andrew, you do a great job with the site. Quick question for you – I am working through the Level 1 songs now. I am new to uke but have some music fundamentals (piano and violin as a kid, lifelong casual campfire song guitar player). With decent consistent practice (let’s say 3 hours week), how long Would you guess it takes to go from level 1 to be able to do level 4 songs? Obviously I know everyone is different and depends on how effective I am at practicing, but I would love a sense of what to expect. Are we talking months, years?
