ParticipantMarianne,
Wish my best playthrough could be like your ‘not the best take’… nice job with the special fingering technique. Couldnt get my head around it.

So here is my entry for May. Really nice song, surprisingly difficult… I always wanted to play a combination of the 2 melodies, at least my hands wanted to 🙂

Participant@nthibode Thanks! So out in the north it is. I really need to get my hands on a Low G as well 🙂
Really nice work on Ain’t no Sunshine! Had to listen to it a couple of times 🙂May 1, 2020 at 4:24 pm in reply to: Participate in the May 2020 Member Challenge – WIN a Kanile’a Tenor Ukulele! #37490oldan_
ParticipantAm I right that all choices this time are better suited for low-G?
What would sound best on a high-G?
Cheers

Hey everyone, here is my entry for this months challenge. I’ve chosen Loke Lani and the fact that I didn’t really practice much (obviously) shows that I have learned a lot in the 6 months or so that I’ve been a member.
Thank you Andrew & Team. Really liked all the entries so far, keep ’em coming!

ParticipantI think this is the one video I wanted to show. I accidentally uploaded the first take. I can’t seem to find an edit post option, so sorry for spamming canon 🙂

ParticipantHey Andrew,
Thanks for the encouraging words, here I am 2 weeks later…still some mistakes, but I think I’m getting better. I don’t have the last bit down yet, I’ve cut it short after the first fast bit.
Watching your performance, can you plz give me some tips on how to create the vibrato effect? It adds a lot, but I don’t seem to be able to copy that movement well.
Thanks
Daniel
(Haven’t left the house now since last Friday, hope you’re still OK wherever you are)

ParticipantHey Andrew,
Thanks for the feedback, here is where I’m at just now.
I think it got slightly better, I’ve now memorised it until I’ve played it in the video, not all that much left…(I find I almost cannot play properly from tabs, any tips?:))
Cheers

ParticipantThanks Andrew for the feedback. I’m really glad I subscribed 🙂
Anyhow, the risk of not being able to play the full arrangement is fine, since the song is really nice, and I’m learning a lot by practicing this.
The stretch goal is the full arrangement and the attainable one is to polish the ‘slow’ parts, melody 1-6. Do you have any tips on how to elegantly stop the music should they walk too fast? 🙂
On right-hand form I feel much more comfy playing around the neck, and I don’t really notice much of a difference in sound… I’d say I even prefer picking where the neck meets the soundhole. I’ll experiment with it… on the left hand, whenever there are cowboy chords I tend to keep the thumb up there because it gives stability and that’s how I learned them. I find it excruciatingly hard to correct it… lower on the fretboard the thumb position is quite different, but I cannot really reconcile it yet. Anyhow, there is plenty of time, so I’m hopeful.
Cheers
Daniel

Hey everyone, great submissions all around. Here’s mine… never really did any thumb picking before, so this is one of my first takes of Greensleeves. I’ve donated to the Uke Club, it’s a great initiative for you to promote, Andrew.
It’s quite far from perfect, but hey 3 submissions in my first 3 months…:) (Was surprisingly difficult to thumb pick for me)

ParticipantHello everyone, lots of fun going through all the great submissions…impressed by the guys tackling Bohemian Rhapsody 🙂
So here is my slightly improved version of the November challenge. Couldnt practice as much as I wanted and the strum is still a struggle, even tho I love this song and arrangement.
