    Here’s my late entry, and apologies for the sound quality, sloppy picking, and erratic tempo, and thanks to my lovely wife for her work recording it. I did Etude #3, and because it’s short, I did it 2 times, with some guitar loops behind to help mask my deficiencies. The second time through, she focuses on a new plant, Portulaca molokiniensis, known also as ‘ihi, a succulent endemic to Hawaii, and then the blue sky and countryside outside our home in Kunming.

    As usual, I’m impressed by all the great entries!

    @suekulele
    , your dog is adorable; it reminded me of Victrola/His Masters Voice.

    @katazumiri
    , your washboard/U-bass accompaniment is wonderful!

    @brettboy
    , loved your variations.
    @Ibilkie, welcome back, and John’s dad Bucky was great too!

    Hi Andrew and all,
    I’m missing this month’s challenge (travel w/o uke most of the month) but really enjoyed the Halloween entries (shout out to @otzepeng foe the spooky backgound!). Sorry to miss my favorite holiday, but it’s a rather non-event in China still. Will be back next month!

    @leb397 That is beautiful; I really need to find a vintage one like that. Happy playing!

    I started this month with Wildwood Flower, then tried Duet from the Heart, and finally did Kakariko Village (with a few glitches). I also did the strumming part on my looper, and was thinking to add a guitar part too but ran out of time.

    I appreciate Andrew and Matt and the other teachers, and enjoy everyone’s contributions!

    Thanks for the kind words and good advice, Andrew!

    I’m very impressed by all of this month’s submissions, especially the Hawaii 5-0 ones. And a special nod to those with split screen videos, like @misterbones and @katazumiri. Got to get a U-bass now!

    And @The_Bumble-Bard, nice work, you made me miss my old cats!

    So I wasn’t going to take on the August challenge, just lay on the beach and eat hot dogs (that’s all I’ve ever wanted to do), but when I saw that Matt was teaching the theme from The Office, I had to try it. So I took a leave from my job as the Assistant to the Regional Manager, and fortified by my buddy Kevin’s homemade chili, I have been devoting some time to learning this catchy tune. I don’t feel I’ve really captured it, it’s harder than it looks (that’s what she said), but I’ve tried. I couldn’t handle the barre on the 10th fret on my uke, so I tried a different fingering, as well as some melodic liberties in places, tempo assassinations, intonation fumblings, etc. Also, I decided to go electric to try to try to make up for my weak hammer-ons and pull-offs. But Matt had a great lesson, the problems are all on Nobody but Me. Parkour!

    This month’s challenge is an original piece; I was trying for a kind of Celtic dance thing, with clawhammer/Travis style picking. There are A and B sections with some repetition and I’m not entirely happy with this, but it’s the best of many tries!

    Hello from Kunming, China–Traveling this month made this a challenge, but it was fun to learn an old favorite (thanks Matt!). And FYI, it’s a fun song to teach to Chinese ELS students, especially the chorus!

    Hi Rick,
    Enjoyed your Bourree this month, well done! I also was introduced to the song by Tull, and have tried to learn it on guitar, but will definitely give this uke version a try. And it was great you did the loop with the U-bass, maybe do some future vid with that cool cigar box guitar sometime? 🙂

    I’ve loved Day-O (Banana Boat Song) since I saw Harry Belafonte sing it on TV many years ago, so it was a pleasure to work on it this month. The song is a real earworm, I’ve been walking around singing/humming/whistling all month.
    It was a challenge playing to the backing track, but good practice, and there are a few glitches, but it was a fun song to learn, thanks Matt and Andrew.

    Greetings from Kunming, Yunnan Province, China. I’ve just recently discovered RC101 (thanks to member Martha), and look forward to learning a lot. I’ll start with a Premium Membership in January and made a $25 donation to the UKC.
    My raffle entry was hastily done, sorry for the irregular timing! I’ve played guitar for decades, and hope some of my bad habits won’t carry over the uke!
    Thanks, and Happy Holidays!
