    Season’s Greetings. I made an attempt at Hanukkah O Hanukkah, had a few hiccups with transitions since I didn’t have the entire song memorized, lost my place here and there, but found my way to the finish. Cheers to smoother transitions in the New Year!

    For the November challenge I chose Fingerpicking Etude #35. Apologies for the sound quality. I usually use the Apogee Jam hooked up to my laptop but for some reason I couldn’t seem to record with my Low G this time without a ton of distortion. That’s a project for another day!

    Here’s my October entry, A Frightful Strumming Etude. I chose it because I wanted to work on the chunking technique. One month in and I still haven’t nailed it but will keep working at it.

    This is my original submission for the July challenge. The posts so far are amazing–I would love to learn how to play some of the originals!

    The strumming style of the first 8 bars is borrowed from Jake Shimabukuro’s Ichigo Ichie. I had the pleasure of seeing him live last month and that song was really moving. If you have a chance, watch his live in studio version of that one.

    I’m not sure this one meets all the criteria but hopefully Andrew will let me know so I can improve any future originals. Cheers!

    @janaq1 your original is so nice to listen to, thank you for sharing!

    @deadbuggy
    very cool sound to your original, I really enjoyed listening to it.

    I’m really enjoying the originals that are popping up, lots of different techniques put into play and to learn from.

    I chose Axel F because I wanted to see what recording with a backing track was all about. Managed to get it figured out somewhat. I haven’t played along with a backing track since the days of Jamey Abersold on vinyl! I was happy with my song selection here, but after hearing the early entries for What Was I Made For, I am definitely going to work on that next. Cheers!

    Here is my entry for the May challenge, Clocks. I also wanted to thank everyone who posted their entries for “Where is My Mind”– because of those I can finally wrap my head around that song and am working hard on it. The first time I heard it when reviewing this month’s challenge songs I didn’t quite follow the melody. But each time I listened it made more sense and now I really want to be able to play that beautiful song. Cheers!

    @leb397 Thank you for your kind words. I actually played the song on my low G tenor because the sound of this particular song with the low G kind of reminded me of an old music box. The maker of the uke is Pono and I love its guitar-like tone. Cheers!

    Hi, I’m submitting my recording of The 4/4 Waltz a little early since I won’t have much time to improve it by the deadline. Still struggling with barre chords and I definitely need to work on this tune more, so for now its the Waltz with Wartz.

    @denisedistefano you make Etude 24 sound so sweet! In checking out all the songs available on RockClass101 I must have missed that one, but thanks to you I will be giving it a try. I also love the mellow tone of your uke, is it an anuenue?

    I’ve been working on the Tennessee Waltz since January. After I listened to Matt Carlson’s version on RockClass101 I was determined to try it even though I think it’s one of the more challenging songs I’ve worked on so far. I finally got it memorized but have to work a little harder getting rid of phantom notes like what you hear when I lift my fingers off strings.

    I’ve been working on It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas and have it memorized but totally struggled through those bars with the triplets up the neck. Felt a little better when I went back and saw this was an advanced challenge. I just really love the song and wanted to try to play it. I hope someday my fingers will cooperate in those tighter spaces up the neck.

    @richo_uke Thank you, I just started using the Apogee Jam which I picked up refurbished from the Apogee site. It requires a pickup on the uke. The Apogee was recommended by Matt Dahlberg in a video he did about recording. I use the Apogee with GarageBand. Still figuring a lot of it out since I know almost nothing about Garage Band. Btw, my dog is a labradoodle.

    @janaq1 I absolutely love this arrangement, and you play with with great feeling. Thanks for sharing it. I hope I don’t wear out the link because I do listen to it frequently!

    Seasons Greetings! I am posting my progress with Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. I have it newly memorized but have to think a bit before some of the chord changes. Thank you to Matt for making this beautiful arrangement available to us. Cheers!
