Lol robin, sounds like it goes above what I can play on my tenor too. 😀

I will probably regret this, but I think I may skip the proper challenge and keep going with Spanish Ukulele and (don’t make fun of me..) Fear Not This Night… An arrangement of a Jeremy Soule song probably shouldn’t be a “first” whole song to play, but it was BY FAR the easiest song I had downloaded tabs for, and it sounded easy enough. It’s not really, but it’s using skills I uke’d hard for… So I think I can do it. (Then again half the stuff I listen to I go “I can totally do that!” … I know I can’t, I have no idea why I think that lol.) Anyway, maybe I’ll change my mind but I have my hands full atm. Only have theme 1&2 memorized on spanish uke, and I got the intro of FNTN sounding decent. S#$& gets real now that the song is starting, so i’m not sure how far I’ll get on that since theres no freaking chord diagrams. (lol, but I’m serious, they or names would help a ton. All I know is it’s a bunch of bar chords from the video. I don’t know how to figure them out from the assorted notes on the tab so my fingerings are interesting.)

Anyway ricky let me know if you want that picture. Looks like it will shape up to be a great day for it as soon as there’s some shade. Maybe I could snap some extra so I have a better picture for my soundcloud stuff.

Ricky- ty for the help with the picture stuff. I was going to toss my instruments in the grass and shoot the size difference with a yardstick. Still can if you want me to.

It would show the fret sizes at least. Sounds like you need a good set up on what you got though and you’d be happier.

Emilyukulele- I think instagram limits the time of the video to 1 minute. I think another member tried it and it cut her short.

    I don’t use it though so I don’t know.

Tenor sounds the same as a concert to me. The tenors have less frets but the frets are a better size to jam my fingers in. I don’t have sausage fingers but it’s more comfortable when a bunch of fingers are close together to me. Brett plays his baritone most challenges for a sound check.

Wish I knew how to put a picture on here.

I don’t think anyone can convince you if you want something.

If i’m stuck deciding over an impulse-buy type of thing, I buy it or not depending if I just can’t let it go in my mind.

I have no idea how big a Ubass is. A bari fretboard is going to be bigger than your concert, by quite a bit maybe.

I finished getting that tiny childrens acoustic guitar I found cheap, cleaned up and mostly playable the other day. I think it’s close to baritone uke size. The frets are bigger than the tenor. (I know they are two different creatures but if you aren’t comfortable with your stretch chords just a mm can suck to reach.) That brings up another thing. The bari is going to be in a different tuning. Which isn’t bad but it’s more work.

LOL! I’m drinking my coffee and babbling. I’ll stop now. Hope you have a good morning Ricky! 😁

You can not just lower the G string on a high g uke.

You need to buy a low G string. Separately or in a set.

    Note:
Low G changes the fingering on pieces of music written for high g uke, (if you want the music to sound the same.) Some music sounds fine playing it from whats written for high g. I have been using my own judgement but trying to learn how to change the fingering to fit. I think the open high g notes are: 3rd fret E string, 7th fret C string, 12th fret? guessing 12 for the octive? (haven’t had to use that one yet and don’t have a uke to make sure.)

    Hope that helps

Edited to add: The strings should say what uke to put them on. I’m not sure how to tell other than that personally. I have a tenor so I buy tenor low G sets. I don’t know string tension and length stuff. Someone might though!

    Grats rufio!!!!!!!😁👍

Stephen- Thank you, I didn’t realize I was pausing before the “chords”, or the “change” parts I labeled in the variations. I had been using a metronome but I couldn’t get the timing right after the chords to jump back into that constant middle finger rhythm for some reason. With a metronome I loose the momentum of the song. If I can’t get that figured out, I’ll record an example because it’s really irritating.

I think the last chord before the scratch was just flubbed and I pushed on. I’ll have to double check, but it just sounds like my fingers missed landing on the strings. I obviously had a moment my fingers just decided to do their own thing there for a few seconds too. The last note I ended on was kind of a fail I guess. I don’t really like fade outs at the ends of songs so I decided that note was a ‘flatline’ sound. Symbolism, 👍 Fail! lol! 😂

As for the day’s stress, can’t say much except I will try. Anyway, I appreciate your and Andrew’s feedback always.

Hard choice this month for me…

I wish I could trade La Gitanita for Spanish Ukulele. Might revisit it though since that was the song I did my first real month playing. (And finish learning Spanish Ukulele.. I have A pretty smooth, haven’t started B yet since I need to change a bunch of notes and probably should write the changes on my tabs..)

I want to learn kemps jig because it’s a practical use for trills.. The Cherry Blossom one is on my list to get other styles.. Can’t do Eastern Uke most likely. With 3 other choices no need to stress out over making strumming into something that doesn’t activate pain.

Hi Joe! It looks like the thing that’s uploading is a .jpg file. (I think that can only be a picture? .jpg, .bmp etc)

You want to post your video by hitting the “share” button under your video on YouTube.

Take that link, copy it, and paste it on it’s own line here on a post, and it will magically appear as a video here. No attaching needed.

Anyway, good luck. That’s the best I can explain it.

I chopped off the scratchy bit in the beginning because I restarted….. I forgot to restart with it. Going to see if I can get a good take before forum time is up. just wanted insurance. Sorry you can practically hear me grinding my teeth in the beginning.

    Cringe….

    Ty Robin.

And yeah, still can’t spot differences between the two examples so you’re probably safe with whatever is easier? (Opinion given with reservations) 😉 As far as my ears can tell he’s playing it the same way with some normal live differences.

I think I hear what you’re talking about now though on some classical guitar cover versions. (I went to classical because I was guessing they’d be the closest to the original, notes-wise for the guitar parts at least. They appear to be until the vocal line comes in, then the arrangements get different.)

*What I mean is, the Blackbird picking pattern is pretty darn iconic. I’d stay as true to album on highly iconic parts if I was actually playing it for random strangers judging me against the album.

I honestly can’t hear a difference between the guitar parts in the examples. :/ Other than production differences between studio and live… I only listened to the first half of each though?

Is there a spot it really is “in your face”? My ear training is more active listening+ being able to separate instruments+ hearing notes in chords played. Then hearing effects and production stuff? I’m at varying degrees of “total noob” at each one, so not hearing stuff probably isn’t a surprise.

    Jina-

Crate!!!! 💖💖💖💖💖 I can’t think of a more fitting amp to play on a song set to the 80’s.

Can you snap a picture? (Or give me a model# I can search to look at which one you got?) I’d bug you in a pm but I have no clue how long rockclass will be minus messaging.

I had the cheapest one during my brief 2 month(?) stint with guitar. I’d love to get one again just for the sake of it…. Maybe a tube version like all the “cool people had” in bands, in high school. 😂 If they don’t cost a king’s fortune these days. lol!

Nice work on Stranger Things btw. 😁👍 I’m still super slow because it has more movement the way I chose to do it for low G. (Best way I could figure out how to play it though, so far, at least.)
