becky7777ParticipantYellowrosecottage – Isn’t it a weird feeling when you notice that suddenly you can hear things you know you couldn’t before? Congratulations though! A trip to the luthier should fix up your ukulele. Maybe you just need new strings? I have no clue if old strings can cause intonation issues…
Nice work on JP!
becky7777ParticipantSound of silence
becky7777ParticipantCan’t wait to see what you decide on. Looks like you have hundreds to choose the first 4 from if you guys are picking from the entire thread.
Been excited for this since it was announced in the year plan. It will be interesting to see how long it generally takes a song to go from being chosen, to release in the wild.
becky7777ParticipantHey ripley!
I do my best on recording day, but I personally try to keep it down to “If I can’t get my best in an hour, I take the best out of what I recorded in that hour.” It makes me unhappy a lot if I’m playing bad that day, but I had to draw a line lol.
The festival you took part in sounds like it was a blast! Congratulations on finding a song to tempt your son into an instrument too! Maybe he will find he loves uke, or playing music in general. 😁

becky7777ParticipantBig difference in sound surfnrz! I have a really hard time playing my inexpensive ukulele now because the high end ukuleles just sound so AMAZING….
Love the Stormtrooper helm btw. Good ‘ole Dark Side has better costumes and music. 😉

becky7777ParticipantI have to change gears completely in that part if I change now, but the high g note on the C string 7th fret and open E lets me play that part I got tripped up on without needing to flail around on the third fret.
I knew that high g note was technically there (at 3-7 & 12) but it didn’t occur to me until now I was right there, because I hadn’t needed to use the ones higher up yet…
becky7777ParticipantHey Stacey!
I jumped in challenges right away after starting uke. If you have questions feel free to ask, lots of great people here.

becky7777ParticipantGah!
I know i’m not getting it that fast….. Maybe I should look up some left hand finger agility exercises after all. Swear I saw some here somewhere but I’m sure I can find something.
Thanks Robin.
I wasn’t anticipating Stranger Things (on low G) was going to be an exercise in shredding. That’s an exaggeration… but it doesn’t feel like much of one to me at this point, lol. I think this is the most left hand finger movement i’ve had to do in any song I picked so far, and getting that g note actually takes more coordination then I thought it would.
I went from 30 to 140…. in a couple weeks… lol. After I get to 200, I only have to double it.
Piece of cake!… -sarcasm 😁

becky7777ParticipantI’m making sure I have this correct. Figured I’d ask since I can’t sleep.
To play stranger things with a metronome along with each beat, I set it to 200 bpm for full speed? I hope it’s not 300 or there’s no way I’m getting my fingers to move that fast.
I am up to 140 bpm but I trip myself up a lot at bar 9 when I have to switch to fret 3 and 7 and 5 to play that variation on low G. (I need to focus there for a bit.)
Changing the high g string notes to the 3rd fret high g note makes for a lot of steady finger movement in this song!

becky7777ParticipantThat was awesome donovan! I’m working on the same song 😁 Congratulations on premium too, your ukulele is beautiful!
You might want to play in a chair or sofa that lets your left arm have space to move, and so your elbows can be in a more natural position.
I have to play with both elbows against my sides from injuries so I guess I am super sensitive to seeing it and don’t want you to hurt yourself.
Anyway great job on Stranger Things!
becky7777ParticipantJina- Do you mean hybrid picking?
becky7777Participantmfaske- Yes, please do. 😁
becky7777ParticipantJust an update on this thing.
I had to get used to the short burst of ‘phone vibration’ it gives off for each metronome pulse. Once I did, this thing is pretty awesome actually.
It charges on a usb port. Once charged you clip the thing on your waistband so the capsule touches your skin and plug it into your metronome or device through the earbud/ headphones jack. It makes noise just like a cell phone buzzing away on vibrate but you can adjust it, so it’s not that noticeable. Once I start playing I can barely hear it.
It’s pretty neat though. The pulse makes it easier for me to get ON the beat. After using it for a while, it reminds me of being at a concert and how you feel the drums in your body because they’re so loud. Not sure if that makes sense, but that’s why it seems easier to get it on the click for me. The click is tapping me.
I think their app is cr “Apple products only” to get enhanced features. I don’t know if the app works on android, I didn’t bother trying the app since I have a metronome.
I’d probably rate it 4/5. (app is not on my platform and can’t use the advanced features. -1 🌟)
Company shipped super fast. (I got mine direct from Peterson because it was on sale.)
Would I buy it again? Actually yes and no. If I had the money I’d probably buy their deluxe version which has everything in a metronome unit, (but holy cow it’s a wee bit pricey. The company looks like it makes pro equipment though.) but I would get the solo again if I need to. (Affordable lol) Not having to get more and more tense listening to a high pitch beep is great for me.
becky7777ParticipantI’m on an Amazon tablet (probably doesn’t matter) both seem to let me highlight.
Both were not playing or paused when I tried to highlight the parts to loop.
Might be fixed?
July 9, 2019 at 1:35 pm in reply to: July 8th, 2019 – Live Lesson Topic: Practicing with a Metronome #28794
becky7777ParticipantAndrew- Yeah. 😂 Don’t worry. It was mostly in reference to how much he messed up spots in the tab viewer.
Other than the story making me die, lots of take-aways in the live lesson section for me this month.
Hugest takeaway though was the star wars story. Matt made me realize ‘once it leaves the paper’ the way I feel music starts taking over, and once THAT happens I stop ‘practicing‘ the song and start ‘playing‘ it. Playing it is WAY more fun, but I sabotage my progress momentum because playing isn’t practicing.
I know it’s a weird takeaway, it is what it is, but thanks guys! It’s huge for me. For whatever reason, I was blind / in denial to seeing it like this. 👍 Funny enough my biggest takeaway really has nothing directly to do with a metronome right? LOL!
