Betsy I was struggling with the metronome too, it was actually one of my more recent revelations I had. Just wanted to holler that you aren’t alone though! I was using my metronome really weird for the longest time.

Congratulations on everyone who was able to do the challenge! Loved everyone’s entries!

I’m so sorry I couldn’t do 64 for you Anne.

    I failed this month. 🙁

I’m guessing/betting it’s going to be Sweet Child O’ Mine on Friday? (Using clues on the site)

Ironically a bunch of YouTube channels I’m subscribed to put out various sources for free guitar VST effects for your DAW this week. (I swear YouTube is creepy like that sometimes for me, but YouTube kinda was pointing to it too.)

My mind has been using ANY excuse not to record this month’s challenge song. I know i’m going to get lynched by Beatles fans when I post, so i’ve been procrastinating hardcore lol. I have to admit I think this month is the hardest monthly challenge i’ve personally experienced yet, but probably not why most would assume it’s difficult for me.

Ok, back to trying to get this done… Although cleaning up the back yard from the dogs sounds like a better plan. LOL!

Actually there’s been at least 2 master class guitarists who chopped off a few of their fretting fingers and managed to be great. Tony Iommi, and Django Reinhardt are the ones I know about.

I can’t give you any tips but if they can do it on guitar I’d think you would have hope with ukulele. It is a matter of how determined you are to learn I would think? If you REALLY want to play don’t let it stop you!

Video of Django being amazing on the fretboard

Lildevil- I’m laughing at your comment because after watching your video you’re playing it so much better than I am. 😂 If you’re a demo of the opposite of everything Andrew’s trying to teach us, then I’m a complete train wreak! So sorry in advance Andrew or Stephen!!! 😉 lildevil your comment made me laugh though about the self inflicted addictive frustration. I can totally relate!

BTW – I want your ability to hammer on with your pinky skipping a fret by that nut! I have literally 0 strength that far away. I end up having to pick that note 99% of the time because it’s silent otherwise lol. You nailed that 1st tricky part with that pinky at the end like a pro in my opinion. The rest was pretty great too so good job!… Oh, and you’re not an example of the opposite of everything we’re being taught btw unless I’m in some oblivious stage of learning and can’t hear or see it all, which I suppose is entirely possible but probably unlikely. 😁 👍

Linking Reminder to everyone since linking took me a while and many people new to challenges post near the end of the month.

    1) Remember to copy the link from the “share” button under a youtube video, make sure this link is on it’s own blank line so nothing but the link is on the line.

Same goes for SoundCloud. There is a “share” button or menu option for your track that contains a link like YouTube’s above. Copy that, and paste it in it’s own line. The video or audio track magically appears in here once you hit submit.

    2) Stay aware of the forum time, vs. your time zone too if you post the last day. Cut-off is midnight rockclass time the last day of the month.

Not sure if this will help anyone but good luck!

I agree, you all did a great job on this one! (I’m definitely going to be giving this a shot after the challenge is recorded.. Which isn’t going to be pretty this month for me lol!)

There’s a link to join the newsletter at the bottom of the home page in the black area? Least I assumed it was a link? I haven’t needed to worry about the mailing list since I joined.

Lisa- Actually filing the fret ends is something everyone in colder or drier climates will probably have to deal with at some point.

The flesh eating uke I got, shipped with REALLY BAD fret pop. I got the file after learning fret pop happens a lot, mostly in winter.

    Glad I got the file!!!

I needed to use it on the pro set-up tiny tenor too because it was like running my hand up and down razor wire sliding my hand on the neck after they lowered the action! (Uke Republic was not responsible btw) I have no other complaints on the set up other than a loose tuner nut. I just chalked it up to i’m glad I learned basic uke, or I guess, guitar maintenance. I was freaked out taking a file to my TT but I kept thinking all that can happen is I either fix it and am happy, or i’m stuck tearing up my hand, hating to play on it. I figured if I messed up a little it just adds to it’s history lol.

    Recdog- (Ron)

Corey was actually the tipping point responsible for me understanding Andrew wanted us to “go there” with feeling/accents/dynamics/vibe. One of their reviews where Corey was guzzling whatever alcohol in the beginning they were giving him a hard time about drinking it all in. At one point he was cycling through songs quickly and it all clicked for me. This probably doesn’t make sense to anyone, but it was an exciting breakthrough for a lot of things for me.

Not sure why I shared that, but there it is.

Jina- Oh goodness, don’t go nut filing until you’re 100% sure the buzz is happening at the nut from the slot being incorrect.

The different brands of uke have different specs on their nut slots. Most low G strings will fit most ukes. There’s a few strings that are too wide but you would need to do some research on your uke and strings etc.

If it’s on the uke you can’t stand though i’m behind you 100% if you want to learn to fix your uke. 😁 I had to learn to file fret ends.

Sounds great lisa!! That does look like a blast to play. I’ve only tried 19 so far. (It’s definitely a challenge for me.)

As far as feedback from the peanut gallery, me… The only thing I could find after listening a bunch of times is somewhere between 1:00 and 1:03 you have a walk up type thing. If it were me, I’d try to just make it flow a bit smoother. (Lisa wanted feedback. So I left feedback I’d want to be aware of. And it’s my honest opinion.) I didn’t hear any buzzing at all except one place your finger touched a string or let up pressure for a note, so I think you’re going into your ‘I’m being to harsh on my own playing’ head for that. Try to stay as relaxed as possible too.

Once a song leaves the paper I’ve been recording some practice sessions and listening back. I have also been practicing listening to what the mic is hearing only, and one headphone on, one off. It helps me spot stuff and keep a notepad of ideas, if im lucky to be recording when I figure something out lol. Anyway super long babble fest.

Robin, love that inlay jeeze. The back is gorgeous.

I got a children’s 1/2 size guitar with steel strings from a thrift store a few months back. (I need to sand the frets it’s an old guitar I guess? They’re grungy black and grindy sounding though.) but the guileles are a much better size for me it looks like. Might look into one at some point. Other then the strings being super close together, the 1/2 size is still a bit big for me to hold without kind of holding it like a cello.

I bought the Music Nomad F-One oil/conditioner for fretboards. I used it once, so I really have no opinion on it yet. Funny enough I remember it smelling like leamon, so who knows. You guys probably saved money on your oil lol.

Wow! Nice Robin! I agree with Kanae 100% I can’t sing along in English to most songs let alone German.

Beautiful guilele! Is the abalone inlay on the 12th fret a picture? It sounds great though. Never did ask what brand it was.
