becky7777ParticipantThis was helpful in a bunch of ways. Matt’s example of messing up star wars is how most of my entries turn out. (My daw counts the measures before export)
If my recording matches the sheet music it generally makes me happy. If I’m +/- bars it’s usually me adding or subtracting time because things just change once it leaves the paper!!! (Rofl)
But oh my goodness I was laughing so hard.
-Matt messes up.
-Andrew calls him out on it.
-Matt pretty much says something Identical to something I said rationalizing a similar thing.
Andrew and Stephen- Still sorry I do that. I try not to. But it makes me feel better I’m not alone now. 😂😂 At least we don’t multiply like gremlins? 👍 Right? 😁 (assuming you watched Gremlins.)
But yeah this lesson is helpful. Thank you.

becky7777ParticipantMade it in time again finally lol

becky7777ParticipantSome things that still make me wonder:
I notice some songs that have a fast time are slower songs.
143 BPM Bonded by Blood, Exodus. (According to a tab site) I consider this a fast song. Faster than PM below.
164 BPM Pineapple Mango, Daniel Ho (straight from Dan) -slower than BbB I’d think.I donno.
————-
Ok kind of bad examples since I chose bbb from a live vid. But you get the idea. And im going off the guitar not the drums btw lol.
————-Andrew in a lot of lessons is like “We play the 8th notes like quarter notes”
Why not just make them quarters?
————
————I’ve messed a bit with slowing down my click to fill in beats recently. BPM 120= metronome set at 30 BPM. According to a jazz theory guy on YouTube who seems legit, it’s supposed to help me internalize timing by making the click one of the beats and you fill in the other 3, in 4/4 time.
Anyway, it’s all fine and good. But the BPM is messing with me and is confusing. Hope this made sense.

becky7777ParticipantThank you, Andrew.
I am starting the scratching over the soundhole and ending on 12. I can’t really say it sounds great right now, but that’s just my newbie playing lol.
I never saw Stranger Things, but now I want to! (Dang you all, lol! NO NETFLIX!) I got the rundown of the story from the guys who do “If Stranger Things had lyrics”. (They’re generally spot on with the stories. 😂)
Anyway ty again, and good luck with the drawing everyone!
PS- that dino thing is cool. I’ve only seen the pokemon go augmented stuff.

becky7777ParticipantQuestion about the stranger things intro.
When we do stuff like this, should we aim to do the down strum over the frets with natural harmonics? (I think that’s what it’s called.. Frets 12, 7, or 5.)
It looks like you consistently strum over 12 in the performance and tutorial video. I don’t know if it’s just the sweet spot area on your uke for neck strumming, and i’m over-thinking the rest.
My uke only has 16 frets so if I wanted to hit fret 12, I get a very small handful of frets to scratch in, really close to the sound hole.
Should I aim to strike over the 7th fret in this case? I’m guessing you aim at 12 to take advantage of any harmonic tones from the strum?

becky7777ParticipantSprinting- that was an awesome ending lol! Looked like a ball to film too!
Ricky- Oh my goodness! You’re playing backwards and upside down, right? <-(Pun wasn’t intended but lol!) I couldn’t imagine my picking hand being the non dominant hand either! A blues guy did the same though because it was what he had to learn on.
I haven’t caught up with days of entries but everyone’s I’ve heard so far is great!

becky7777ParticipantAww heck. I just bought it.
I suppose i’ll let people know if it’s worth considering. It says it’s silent.. I can’t imagine how it can be silent or phone companies would be using the tech. But who knows.

becky7777ParticipantYellow cottage- I didn’t see the slide question. The live lesson with taps and pull offs he goes over slides and the pressure I think. Even if you can’t get the A string to ring out or whatever you aren’t happy with, you shouldn’t let that stop you from posting. The only ‘contest’ in the challenges is a random drawing. Besides if you post a video Andrew can probably help spot problems and fix them. (Which is my fav part of feedback.)
You can actually slide slower(-ish) if you feel you’re going too fast or whatever.
If you put more pressure on the fretboard with your fingers as you slide it stays clear, and you can actually gain in volume some too with practice. This lesson Andrew went over fading the slide. The reverse is true too. (I apparently love to fade into slides lol.) Anyway, yeah I really love slides. I’ve been using them when I can’t bend a string, they work sometimes instead of taps and pull offs, they’re fun and sound cool. I suspect i’m over-using them right now because i’m in some weird ‘let’s slide around the fretboard because I can’ phase but it’s fun. Way too much typing and im done with my coffee lol.
Anyway have a good one, and good luck again😁

becky7777ParticipantI’m doing Aloha oe, not sure I can help much since I literally just started on the song a few days ago… But as for the A string not ringing:
When you have the chord fretted that isn’t ringing, try using the weight of your arm. Relax your fretting arm from your neck and shoulder and let your arm’s weight hang from your fretting finger. Kind of use the weight of your arm to help push your finger against the fretboard. It’s kind of like rolling your finger like matt suggested. It just uses a more natural ‘roll’ and you don’t have to work quite as hard to get it.
The uke I have is kind of boat paddle shaped and makes reaching higher frets easier so I can’t really help with your part 2.
If it makes you feel any better though, yes those bar chords up on those very last frets on the neck are a challenge. I REALLY love that progression(?) in the verse though. It’s really fun to play for me even though the Tiny tenor only has 16 frets.😁
Anyway, good luck! Hope someone can help you!!!
becky7777ParticipantI watch the main video dry once without a uke. Then I print the music. (Sometimes reversed)
Been guilty of not watching a lesson until I had my own fingerings set from the tabs though!
My biggest thing was I really didn’t pay much mind to the chord shapes until late last month. (Yes, I know i’m an idiot now) I was using them, but not to learn them as shapes lol.
You going to the stu retreat Jerry? Regardless you’ll have a blast!

becky7777ParticipantGreat lesson! Missed it live. As soon as Matt mentioned ‘tone’ I was wondering what he’d pick to cover since it’s vast. 😁 (and fun)
I’m going to investigate finger angle more, i’m having problems where suddenly i’m playing really dark sounding and it’s hard or impossible to fix once it happens. Don’t know what i’m doing that’s causing it. Finger angle might be able to help isolate what in the world happens.
becky7777ParticipantI add things or tweak the song to how I like it keeping it as true to written and the original song as possible.
robin- Even Andrew’s arrangements aren’t safe lol! 6 weeks playing uke and I changed that gypsy woman song to add in fancier bits from the original lol. 2 weeks playing uke and I made 3 zombie tracks to add to the walking dead theme that never made it onto the performance track in October because I had no idea how to add them at the time haha! 😁 (at least one will make it’s debut this coming October, because they actually came out really good imo and I had a blast creating them, I pull off a good zombie voice with help from the special effects in the DAWs and i’m not ashamed to say it.😁)
becky7777ParticipantThat’s awesome Andrew! TY! I have a couple questions prepped for whenever that happens 😁
