Evan uploaded an awesome Christmas family jam on his channel. πŸ™‚ What a great thing to grow up in a family of musicians!

Just wanted to give it a shout out here. 😊

Trent- once you upload to youtube I think you just copy paste the link for sharing into its own line here in the forums and the video magically appears if it’s like soundcloud. Good luck!

Trent I don’t see your entry at the time I am typing this πŸ™

Big kudos to everyone’s impressive challenge videos/recordings! Only a few hours till the cutoff for the giveaway apparently!(Especially the singers, i’m torturing you all enough without MY howling out of tune on top of my mediocre ability to play the ukulele lol! Although it would be hilarious to get a reaction video of Andrew and Stephen being surprised by it!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚)

Congratulations on beating both goals too! You really have to let uke republic and kanile’a know how grateful we all are for the chance at winning that beautiful ukulele..

Off to give a final tuning and then wrap the ukulele i’m giving my nephew for Christmas. Gotta spread the ukulele love.

miztaken- Less than a week before you get your new Eucal-lele! πŸ˜‡ (yeah bad pun) That should make practicing more fun at least! Do you have a song you plan on playing first on it?

kanae- I found a couple songs I recorded in October when I started. I have to admit I’m still terrible but I’ve improved a lot. I still cringe when I listen to my stuff but it’s getting better slowly. Going to try to do video in 2019 so I can get better help. But man I hate cameras on myself…

    I AM A PREMIUM MEMBER

December Challenge entry, beginner level. The First Noel

OK- Anyone probably should beware on some parts the decibel gain was in the red (loud) on Audicity if you listen on headphones. I tried fixing it and can’t.. I recorded this using the suction cup piezo pickup on the new Kmise Concert Ukulele I got. I used a guitar pick rather then my thumb. This improved the sound I was getting but you can hear the pick in a bunch of spots. To tell you the truth, I think I prefer the sound of my little $12 Diamond Head soprano… The Kmise kind of sounds like it’s stuffed with socks or something (to my ears). I played a bit with Audicity effects but nothing really improved the sound to something I was happy with.

    Happy Holidays to everyone!

Robin- nice beach to have in your ‘backyard’! Definitely inspiring to be able to just walk a little ways and get to relax there!

Lisa- Overall not having any beach nearby isn’t too bad. (What we have is just not a beach despite them calling it one lol!) We have plenty of parks and some nice rivers. Our downtown area has a nice riverwalk area. There’s benches and pavilions to relax in and on, or you can just walk the area by the river. But again, no real risk of splash damage unless I jump in the water or it rains lol! 😁

Miztaken- I know what you mean with the false savings now after getting my concert uke… It sounds worse recorded then my $12 soprano. I only half regret getting uke #2 though lol! I am coveting that spalted mango tiny tenor, Uke Republic has. Can’t afford it unless he will hold one for me while I make payments on it for a year lol! But it sounds soo pretty to me.

Thank you all btw- I was looking at the ukudelic and the waterman half heartedly. If I go plastic ill find one of those Outdoor Ukes. Watched a bunch of videos and read what you all thought about them, and they can practically survive the apocalypse lol. (Some youtube video guy said a horse stepped on his carbon fiber outdoor uke)

After practicing The First Noel daily since the lesson was released, I finally played the entire piece through from memory for the first time last night! I still need to do a long warm up session where I stop and stare at the fretboard 100 times but I might actually be able to record it soon!

I’m still not sure why I’m having such a hard time memorizing chord melody, but maybe this song will help me wrap my head around my issues learning Niel Gow’s Lament For The Death of His Second Wife. (Or not lol, but I have hope!)

Anyone know what that little dial in the left of the Rock Class 101 site does? If I push it, it turns blue. It doesn’t appear to do anything else.

Happy belated Chanukah to all who celebrated too!

With your seagull avatar I should have figured, πŸ˜‰ closest I’d get to a beach is a large pool made in a rock quarry they threw some play sand around and call ‘Centennial Beach!’ LOL! πŸ˜‚

Love your stand, It’s beautiful! Did you finish the wood somehow, or is eucalyptus just naturally shiny like that?

But aside from that, welcome! πŸ™‚

Just wanted to toss this out there…

I was looking at the Enya EUC-X1M that onemusicschool did a video review for not too long ago for a couple reasons, outdoor use being one of them.
Her video for a sound check:

It’s made of hpl and the description on amazon says it isn’t affected by humidity or temperature changes. She said hpl is used for counter tops, so it sounds pretty tough to me. I have no idea how weather proof your uke really needs to be though! I doubt you can toss it in a pond like the plastic ones.

The other is I’m allergic to my new concert ukulele’s “semi closed, open pore” finish… πŸ™ (To be fair, the company will take it back, but I’m going to keep it and try putting carnuba guitar wax on it to make a buffer between me and it. Right now i’m wearing a sock on my arm like a fingerless opera glove and it’s keeping me from getting yucky itchy hives.) I plan on getting something together that looks better then a sock though lol!!

Anyway don’t know if that helps, but that enya sounds pretty decent and would be as weather proof as I’m likely to need since I won’t be playing in a rainstorm or in a pond lol.

Edited to add this blog I had read about it. There’s more like it but it shows and tells downsides you might need to consider…

Sorry for more long posts I am trying to make them small but it doesn’t ever happen… πŸ™

    That’s awesome lisa! πŸ˜€

My friend played guitar at a coffee house years ago and he had the place singing along to ‘where have all the flowers gone’ It was fun πŸ™‚ If you know any simple chord strum along songs its an idea to get everyone involved too.

I have no helpful tips for playing in front of people, but if you know em all you should have a great time! Best wishes for your party!! πŸ™‚

Laurasil- I’m not sure if what I do is cheating (probably is..) but my physical metronome/tuner (actual little battery operated box) lets me set 8th notes, dotted 8th notes, triplets, etc. I set it to whatever the majority of notes are and it cuts down on the internal counting I have to do. Anyway, not sure this will help at all, but it’s easier for me then one that just does quarter notes.

Kanae- I was going to ask, and Am asking! If anyone has any tips to memorize The First Noel…. I’m only cheating and recording while reading the tabs if I run completely out of time, and I’ll say, if it’s the case.
    πŸ™

Like you, I think I have the song down ONLY if I have the tabs in front of me. I have to admit chord melody is so far my weakest music to remember. (I might have issues playing lots of things, but I can remember just chords or just twiddly things…. Add the two and I crash and burn… Well, I actually just stop and stare dumbly at my ukulele’s fretboard… LOL.)

Sheryl – Yep you got how it goes, down perfectly. πŸ˜€ It’s about the same with me (especially barking, or maybe the kids broken chair that sounds like hammering or him screaming into his headset mic at his team he’s playing online pvp games with.. Makes me jump every time lol!) minus the video camera stuff until I buy something that will let me work with video+recorded sound.
