@Andrew – Not a big deal really, but an easy fix? Just searched “Sleepwalk” in the song page and it returned nada. Had to put in a space for it to pop. Might want to throw in a tag with no space for searching? 💖

Helen’s Theme is off the paper finally. (with picado) It’s a fun song. I added your (Andrew’s) slide from the end of theme 2 back to 1. (Because it’s fun, and sort of sounds “screamy?” since she’s losing a battle with her “dark side” or sanity or something, I watched that red organ video for a summery of the movie… Mostly did the slide because it’s fun though, and it was there, so why not.)

I was playing this on my soprano outside a little bit ago btw. The running out of frets discussion was on my mind. The note on the 14th fret was doable by using my nail on the string past the frets to get that note, but it was a train wreak trying to slide back down to the Am like that. If you don’t plan on doing the slide though, its not too bad. (Just thought this might help someone who may not try the song because they might only have 12 frets.) It could probably be handled a couple different ways, but that keeps the same note.

    Need to record soon.

I’ll get the rest of the stuff I was supposed to record, recorded when I hook it all up again too hopefully. (Nothing exciting, but said I would. I haven’t improved much since the last time I recorded, but it will be interesting to compare this with Walking Dead from when I started.👍)

I have to find my Halloween costume too lol

Big fan of this technique, been working on this for a while because of Asturias and the song in question below. I feel dumb asking this but I’d like to know what to look up.

Is she using rubato or some other technique on the tremolo in this song? (I’m learning this on uke off mike hollands tabs for ukulele, but this is ideally how I want to do it eventually, not just the steady tremolo i have going on now.. I can pretend anyway, but yes, feel free to laugh, lol. Just not sure what I need to work on looking up?)

(Question is for anyone who might know btw. And ty Matt, i’ll try to keep making sure to keep checking to stay relaxed. It creeps in without me noticing.)

I’m in the same boat Robin. I need 19 frets to play everything I want to. (My uke stops at 16. Evans new song has up to 17 lol)

If you’re 1 fret short depending on what you need to play up there, you can get notes off the strings past the frets. I don’t know if things can be chorded up there though. (When I was doing it, I only messed with single notes)

The Aquilla low G set will probably fit any uke and is sort of available to buy. (I tried their soprano low G set on my inexpensive soprano and it fits perfect.)

Stephen (instructor here) made a great video on the difference in sound between round wound and flat wound strings btw. Its on bass strings, but totally accurate on how the round and flat low G strings sound. (You can fast forward through the rubber string demo since it doesn’t apply but it’s interesting.) I love my flat wound low G and the video is a perfect example why lol. (I love the sound and the feel of it)

I’m on team low G. Lol. It’s a big pain in the butt (since I don’t know my stuff good yet) to play some of the high g songs on Low G, so i’d personally recommend setting up one of each, then trying string sets till you find one you personally like.

Missed his planting of the arm stuff in the video. Yes. 😋 (I’m a certified pro at missing obvious things. Lol)

Johanna – I anchor with my arm on the side of the uke. If that makes sense? It is sort of the same as planting with your pinky, but it will feel different.

    Great costume! 💖

Lisa try hitting just your high g on the strum? Avoid the low G to see if that fixes it. (Not sure if that’s what’s going on. Sounds like it might be?)

Question for live lesson in bold.

Malagueña is one of the songs I saw when I started, couldn’t play, then forgot about. Then I hit some notes, figured it out mostly from memory and couldn’t figure out the name of it! (and no one else could name it either!) so it’s not quite totally ‘right’. Real darn close to Matt’s on his Youtube though. I give myself a A- for remembering how it mostly goes not knowing what it was other than “a popular classical song” lol. That phrase goes over super well with serious lovers of classical music btw lol.. Been using this song to practice 1,2, & 3 tremolo… Or rolls. (It’s been a type of tremolo to me now since what? November? Can’t check.)

I have questions though. I should only ask 1 for the live lesson.

Would any of you be willing to answer some questions outside the scope of the target lesson, after the live lesson here, about trem please? Even if you just point me somewhere?

    1) Tips to keep the three fingers tremolo-ing on a 4 finger roll? from getting tense or sore for really long or demanding songs with trem, would be great. 👍

Thumb independence day, for trem, I wrote it in my profile. lol.

Hey Jina- They’re doing improv over Havana btw. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out what song it was! Andrew has a lesson here, although it appears you might understand the video, so you might have picked the Havana thing up already. 😁 I’m in love with that landscape though!

I had no idea what I was even watching until the performance videos lol. It was set up very much like independent film. 😁 He doesn’t appear to have the auto-translate turned on as an option, in YouTube for his channel, or however that works, either lol. Just really loved everyones performances.

That’s so cute lol! Appetite 👍

I think she’s taking the food metaphor thing in music a bit far there. Maybe start with a C chord with a finger in the future before she starts playing with her mouth. 😂 That’s kind of an advanced technique.

I’d say yes that totally counts as a costume 😁 Anything not normally worn kinda does. You could have put a pillow case over your head with some rope or tape on your arms and been a kidnap victim? Toss a bathtowel on like a cape grab a plunger and your Captain Washroom!- Just saying. Kinda normal household items. Halloween is great to get creative with. No formal costume needed. 👍

Really nice playing btw! I’ve wanted to do Sleepwalk for a while now.
