ccwukeParticipantGreat entries so far. I would have loved to learn one of the triplet strum jigs or Irish Washerwoman but I just didn’t have the time. Here’s my recording of Black Velvet Band

ccwukeParticipantThanks everyone. I had my lesson with @Andrew the other week. We worked on the Cantina (from Star Wars), which will take a lot of time to get under my fingers and played at speed. Was great to meet Andrew and get some 1-1 instruction.

ccwukeParticipantHi, some great entries as always this month. @brettboy that was amazing!
Here’s my entry – Ocean Eyes by Billie Eilish
No time to practice or play this month as I’ve started busking with some friends at the local markets which has been great fun, and as it turns out not as scary as I feared, as no one pays much attention to us or for very long:)

ccwukeParticipantHad lots of fun learning and recording the Star Wars Medley. Also had some fun with the video too 🙂
Some improvement from the last practice video, especially with timing and strumming accents, but dynamics tend to drop off when I’m on my nth recording and just want to get the notes and timing right.

ccwukeParticipantHi, here’s where I’m at with the Star Wars Medley practice. A bit rough in spots, might need to slow it down a bit and focus on playing cleaner with better dynamics. Good news is I’ve got a lot of it memorised, but its still nice to have to have the tab there if I’m doubting myself or just having a blank 🙂 Hopefully I can improve some more in the next 5-6 days before I attempt to record the final version.
I’m enjoying everyone’s posts and progress reports.

ccwukeParticipantSo many songs to choose from.
Execution – I’ll be working on the Star Wars medley. I attempted this a while ago for another monthly challenge but switched to another song when I realised I couldn’t get it ready in time. I’d rate myself as a solid intermediate player. Have been practicing up to 30 mins most days and will continue that. Hope to have a lot of it memorised as that is something I struggle with and often run out of time to do.
Application – this song has many techniques including strumming, picking, triplet strum, harmonics, rubato, dynamics. I’ll focus on these. Will also work on memory by playing short sections without the tab.
Evaluation – Can play the piece through ok after 2 weeks, at a much slower tempo. Don’t think I’ll get to 100%. Have mostly memorised the first 2 sections.

Here’s my recording of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Lots of great entries so far! Merry Christmas everyone!
Now to practice for a Christmas party gig with the band I play ukulele and guitar in. We’ve got a special guest – an Elvis tribute artist! Its going to be great fun 🙂

Here’s my recording of Always With Me. I recorded about 5 full takes and this was the best one, getting the ‘perfect’ take on a longer song is hard!

Here’s my recording of Cissy Strut. Slowed it down to 85% speed. Had good intentions to record the solo but left it a bit late and not sure I can get it up to speed (even at 75%!), those triplets are hard!

The Fingerpicking Etude no. 32 melody has been on repeat in my head since I first heard it!
March 18, 2023 at 5:27 am in reply to: Participate in the March 2023 Member Challenge: WIN Classical Ukulele! #56793
ccwukeParticipantHere’s my performance of Adelita. Lots to work on to improve this piece, but this was definitely my best take. Love playing classical on the ukulele! Thanks for the arrangement and lesson.
Lots of talk of performance and recording anxiety. Trust me it does get a better over time, but I guess will probably never go away! Never thought I could perform ok in public but the other weekend I played ukulele, uke bass and guitar with our band at a band open mic, and the nerves were there but manageable. It was our 3rd ‘gig’. Recording most months for this forum have helped a lot!
