ccwukeParticipantFingerpicking Etude no. 12. Love the use of the gypsy major scale in this etude. Andrew plays it so fast its amazing. I could only get it to 70% and even then with a few mistakes.

ccwukeParticipantThanks I was shocked too! I was just browsing the YouTube analytics and saw the view count.

Here’s my recording of God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman. This one proved more difficult than it looked and there’s a few wrong notes in this take.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

ccwukeParticipantNot much time to practice this month so there’s a lot to improve on in this quick recording of Stranger Things. Its a great arrangement of the theme song from one of my favourite shows.
Enjoying everyone’s recordings!

ccwukeParticipantHi, I’ve been so busy lately with music projects that I haven’t participated in the monthly challenge for a while, but have been enjoying everyone’s recordings. Couldn’t resist a very quick attempt at Misirlou, mistakes and all!
Please don’t enter me for the prize draw this month.
The music projects I mentioned above include a 10 week ‘Rock Class’ with a local University School of Music which ends with a 3 song gig at a local venue. I’m also a member of a part time band and we’ve got a 30 min set coming up ina few weeks at a community festival, I’m playing ukulele and acoustic guitar for that one.
Big thanks to Andrew and everyone at RockClass101 for helping me improve my playing skills, musicianship, reduce performance anxiety, and help get me to the point where I can actually play with others in public. Wish me luck!

Here’s my recording of La Donna è mobile. Featuring the amazing Loprinzi concert ukulele I won in the January challenge. A song more familiar to me as the one used in the pasta sauce and tomato paste ads here in Australia!
Found this piece quite difficult to learn. I put a lot of practice time into the B section and still have some more work to do to get it better. I gave up on the harmonic at the end too, just couldn’t regularly land it.

ccwukeParticipantThanks for the detailed feedback @Andrew, really appreciate it. Will work on those fingerings to try and improve the sustain.

Great arrangements of Beatles songs this month. Here’s my recording of Yesterday.
Played along with the metronome this month to try and improve timing.
@maryjanew so sorry to hear of your loss. You can see a drawing above my left shoulder of my lab Rex who we said goodbye to 7 years ago. Still miss him.Chris

A Kanile’a Platinum! Amazing, what a prize! Thanks RockClass101 and Uke Republic.
Have always loved Minuet in G.
I picked up a 2nd hand bass guitar a few months ago so this seemed like a great opportunity to actually play something with it rather than just play “Another one bites the dust” (over and over) 🙂 Thanks for including the bass part and tabs for it.
Keeping good time has always been a big challenge for me, so this piece was a good challenge. I lost my way a little at the start of the B section but eventually recovered.

ccwukeParticipantHere’s my Love Theme from the Godfather.
Experimented some more with recording this time and recorded two audio channels- one from the external condenser mic and the other from the ukulele pickup line out, then mixed them together with a touch of reverb.
The Loprinzi ukulele I won in the January challenge got delivered this week. Wow it is a very nice instrument! I’ll be sure to use it in an upcoming challenge. Thanks RockClass101!

ccwukeParticipantHere’s my recording of St James Infirmary on a low G tenor uke. Thanks to Evan for a great arrangement and Andrew for teaching it.
Normally I just record a video with my phone, but this time I’ve recorded the audio with an external condenser mic and USB audio interface plugged into an iPad to record the video. I used the iOS camera app to record but found it only recorded in one channel, probably because the audio interface can record 2 channels but I’m only using one for the mic. Does anyone know of any other iOS video recording software that might overcome this problem?
I ended up exporting the audio from the video, then imported it again as stereo to get audio on both L and R channels.

Here’s Rudolph…..Merry Christmas everyone!
I am also working on Last Christmas, but really struggling with the harmonics section and bars 37-40. Tendonitis is limiting the amount of advanced practice I can get in. Excuses, excuses 🙂
