I had a head start with Hone A Ka Wai; I learned it from a John King book. However — the campanella runs at bars 9 and 13 were different than Christopher’s version and more difficult for me to play. Thanks to his arrangement, I feel like I finally can play this lovely tune relatively cleanly and from memory. Thanks, Christopher and Andrew!

deadbuggyParticipantI used to be able to play a version of Lagrima on guitar but I forgot it long ago, so it’s been great to revisit it.
deadbuggyParticipantBravo!!! Thanks so much for posting this and the unboxing video. So lovely to see and hear you play this fantastic uke!

deadbuggyParticipantThanks, so much Lyndal! I’ve got a couple more originals in my gig bag; it’s so much fun to noodle around on the uke. What I really need to do is to learn how to tab out some of this stuff because ye’ olde’ memory banks ain’t what they used to be!

deadbuggyParticipantBalynastraugh/Ellyce
Happy New Year, all! Yes, I’m posting this on day 1 of the challenge, but I’ve been working on this original piece for a while. I made this video a few weeks ago to make sure I could remember it.
It’s inspired by some genealogy research; my 9th great grandfather was the Baronette of Balynastraugh in Ireland so I tinkered with a vaguely Celtic sounding reel or jig. His wife’s name was Ellyce so I wrote a companion tune in her honor. Then I tried to put the two together by modulating from the key of Em to G. Oh, and I completely stole the bridge chord change in Ellyce from Etude #22. And there’s also a chance I stole both melodies from other songs 🙂

deadbuggyParticipantMany congrats Gianluca!!!!
deadbuggyParticipantHi Andrew! Thanks again for a fantastic year of courses and lessons.
I’m interested in learning more about classic/traditional Hawaiian melodies ala the stuff John King used to do. Related to that is the campanella technique. And George Formby style stuff — that would be a stretch for me but I’m up for the challenge!

deadbuggyParticipantThanks, Andrew! That was my attempt at Jingle Bells but your version sounds way better 🙂 You’re a fantastic teacher and this site is amazing. Who knew people could get such incredible music out of these little four-stringed instruments? Cheers to all!
