MemberHere’s my entry for this month. Wish I had more time to practice but it’s been a little tricky lately. Great song to warm up to, was looking for something like this!

MemberFirst of, congrats on the endorsement Andrew! Well deserved!
In addition to the outlined curriculum (which sounds great) I’d like to keep learning more contemporary songs. While I’m still working my way up there, your interpretations on songs like Havana and Thinking Out Loud sound amazing on the ukulele, and I’d like more of that down the road. More Spanish style lessons would be great too.
I know its been discussed in the lightening round videos, but I think it would be beneficial to have a lesson solely dedicated to instrument maintenance (restringing, fret board care, etc). Ignore this if its already posted on the website and I just missed it, but it would be nice to have this as a reference.
Thanks again for everything you do. Looking forward to the next six months!

MemberHad to learn this one before the 4th! Here’s my performance of America the Beautiful. It’s not perfect, and I haven’t mastered all the dynamics Andrew taught us in this lesson. Hopefully passable though!
Looking forward to everyone’s performances this month!

MemberYeah, thought you might key up on my right hand form, as it definitely looked different from the other member performances. I’ll try to post a video once I fix THAT bad habit.
I actually started out with more of a claw shape, but it’s changed the last 2 weeks. My problem is that my timing on the 8th notes gets out of whack unless I delay my thumb. Does that make sense? I can post something if it helps.

MemberI was actually going to request the same song! Found that video online a few months back, and now it’s a bucket list song for me.

MemberThanks Andrew! These songs ended up not a big hit with my six year old, but my three year old daughter loves them! Now if you could put together a new song from Trolls or Sing, you’d really be doing me a solid! 🙂
Doing “Daydreaming” in April was really a stretch for me. You gave me a lot of constructive criticism last month, and working on those techniques/fixing bad habits ended up being my focus this month. Brahm’s lullaby definitely took some time, but I was mostly trying to focus on tempo, finger position, etc.
Thanks again for taking the time to review and instruct, I feel like it makes all the difference. Looking forward to next month’s challenge!

MemberHere’s my entry for the April challenge:
Fun song, Andrew! Like it the more I play it. Looking forward to your feedback so I can really nail this. Perhaps I have bad form on my bar cords, or just fatigue, but I’m having to switch to a stock G cord on the triplet strum to really get the notes to ring out.
Looking forward to learning all three songs this month. All very catchy and worth having in the repertoire.

MemberHey guys,
Populele is in hand (thanks Andrew!), and wanted to pass along the thoughts of a beginner in case anyone was interested in buying this. My daughter (6) and I a chance to tinker around with the Populele this weekend, and to Andrew’s point, she loved it. Really absorbed the lessons on the app, and having the chords light up really helped her understand what to do. She’s having a blast, and I think that a lot of it has to do with how Populele has made learning an instrument into a game, which she can relate to.
I played it too, and had some different take aways:
-The different “dazzle” light up features range from somewhat useful (Linear) to novelty (you can do a custom light setting…basically, if you want to serenade someone with their name lit up on the uke, you’ve come to the right place!). Regarding former, I recorded the video below to show how the linear mode works. Found myself thinking about dynamics of the song as I played, which I thought was useful. As my playing will show, however, it is a little bit distracting at first. Or maybe its that I’m easily distracted. The point is, be kind, I know I made a ton of mistakes!
Haven’t really played many of the games, but seemed pretty similar to the Kala app (guitar hero-esqe). Probably a little better, especially if you have the Populele. Seemed to be mostly strumming focused, though I didn’t fully investigate.
Any questions, let me know.

MemberHello all. So originally I chose Irish Washerwoman, however things just didn’t pan out. Worked on it up to St. Patrick’s Day (trying to be festive!). While I got to the point where I could play it the whole way through, it sounded…awful. Like I was hurting a small animal. Just having a really difficult time building speed and playing it smoothly. Will need more time.
Anyway, here it is, my chopsticks entry. Things were going fine until my brain shut off towards the end… oh well! Thanks again for the fun challenge!

MemberLooking for some help on the Irish Washerwoman. Figured this was a great (and timely!) song to learn as as I want to practice my Hammer-Ons and pull offs. As I’ve tried to build up speed, I’ve notice my right pinky has gone from resting below the strings to full on anchor mode. It looks like Andrew has his fingers floating, but when I try that and attempt the first double pull off, the head drops. So, apart from digging my fingernail into the top or resting the uke across my lap, any suggestions on how to hold the instrument for this song?
