Been a while since I posted, but still working at it! I admittedly got behind schedule this month trying to finish Scarborough Fair. Couple of missed notes, missed transitions, and some tempo issues, but all in all not a bad start for two weeks work.

Here’s my entry for December. Played around with a third melody, let me know what you think.

ParticipantAndrew, thanks for the feedback. I’ve really been focusing on my right hand the last couple of months, so your comments come as a relief.
And You’re right, the tempo is off. I think I’ve worked though most of that as I’ve devoted more time to the latter themes, but still want to get up to Evan’s speed.
My ending was a mess. I really wasn’t happy I posted that, because it’s typically been much cleaner. Was really trying to push myself to meet the deadline. I’ll go back and watch this section again.
Looking forward to what is in store for next month!

Here is my performance for Moon, such as it is. Had no time to refine it this month, but made the deadline. Particularly sorry for that first note and the ending!
Love this song and look forward to playing it for years to come. More low G lessons please!

ParticipantGood call Andrew! It never occurred to me, but I knew something didn’t feel right. If I hadn’t of edited the video, you would have seen me wiggling in my chair for a solid 15 seconds as I tried to get comfortable!
Working on Moon now, though with my travel schedule it’s been slow goings. Will post whether or not I make it by the end of the month.
Thanks as always.

ParticipantThanks mheiden! It’s a Koaloha Opio acacia tenor. I’ve had it for about five months, and absolutely love it. Doesn’t really show in this song because it’s up tempo, but the notes really sustain. Got it at Uke Republic, highly recommend them.

Here is my submission for November’s challenge. Working on “Moon” now, but not sure I’ll have it down by the end of the month.
Great job everyone!

ParticipantAndrew,
Does “Moon” have to be performed in low G to qualify (I didn’t see this mentioned anywhere above, but perhaps missed it)? I imagine it won’t sound quite right given the mood of the song, but I really want to learn this one!

Participant1. What strings do you recommend on your ukuleles?
2. What are your recommendations for proper care/maintenance of your instruments?

ParticipantAndrew, thanks for the kind words and feedback. Regarding the advice on loosening up my right hand, is are there any tips/suggestions to correcting this, or does it happen organically by just practicing more? If you’ve already posted this somewhere, I apologize. Just want to avoid developing any bad habits while I work on my right hand technique.

Wanted to go ahead and submit today, as exactly one year ago I decided to pick up a small four-stringed (or any stringed, for that matter) instrument for the first time. It truly was on a whim, as I’ve never really had any interest in playing music before, but fortunately something stuck.
Andrew, you and the website you created obviously played a big part in keeping this fun. Thanks for your insightful lessons, great selection of material, building this community, and for continuously challenging/motivating us.
Love this song, by the way. And the grand prize (fingers crossed)! Hit a little snag near the end but oh well.

ParticipantAndrew, took your advice and learned La Gitanita. Here’s my second attempt at “Swing your Rhythm”. Picado certainly makes it easier! Thanks again for your help!

ParticipantThanks guys!
Kanae926, yup, you got it! Got it from Uke Republic a couple of months ago. Having a blast with it; the professional set up made a world of difference. I actually think the recording sounds a bit harsh, but I think part of that has to do with my phone’s speaker. Tried the concert out while I was there, sounds great too. Love the look of those orange friction tuners!
