Missed my last two challenges and really happy to get back to the challenge again.
Here’s my performance on Mika’s arrangement of Mad World. Still a bit more practice needed. I can’t believe the entire song is based on 2 variations of just Fm and B flat chords to create this beautiful melody.
Happy Easter everyone.
I can relate to the countless NG takes. I had so many NGs my left wrist is now hurting and need to take break so as not to risk getting RSI. Something new for me this month is I recorded my performance sitting down. (I have always played/recorded standing up). It felt a bit weird at first but I soon enjoyed the extra lap support.
@gi_gi you played beautifully. You should see my outtakes lol
@leb397 my condolences to your loss. Very nice tribute to your mum. I chose the same song this month.
@The_Bumble_Bard enjoyed your performance this month. You have so much creativity and what a beautiful love story.I’m just glad there are 31 days this month compared to February. Even with the extra days, I still felt short on time. Initially I wanted to challenge myself to learn the triple picking technique but bailed half way as it was taking more effort and didn’t want to risk not finishing this month. I will have to learn this another time.
Below is my rendition of Red is the Rose.
Enjoyed watching everyone’s performance.
@planetfink beautifully played.Like @planetfink, I chose Fly Me to the Moon for my challenge this month. Love the percussive slaps used in this arrangement.
I’m already struggling with this month’s challenge 😅 I have been spending way too much time browsing the RC songs catalog and there are more than 10 songs I want to learn and I keep changing my mind. I guess “free for all” is not free after all 😂
Bravo!!! This is such a talented group. I’m in awe of everyone’s musicianship.
@TBB: haha. loved Mattxim which I heed closely now 🙂
@gigi: thanks for the words of encouragement. Your Summertime performance is out of this world !!
@andrew: thanks for your advice on the areas to work on. Having a mid-month progress report and check-in really helps. Here’s my performance at 70 BPM.@TBB, thank you so much that means lot to me 🙂 In the remaining month, I’m hoping to hone in and practice each of the rough sections with a much slower tempo to help improve my consistency and accuracy before doing another take. As Matt often says, slow is smooth and smooth is fast.
@mark1256 thanks for the words of encouragement. This piece is really challenging but I love the high energy aspects of this tune. I’m going to slow down to 60bpm and work on getting consistency.
Happy New Year Everyone!
1) Execution – I don’t have any vocal talent so I shy away from singing and strumming on ukulele. Learning to play fingersytle is what drawn me to RC101 at the first place. I would say I’m at the budding intermediate level at fingerstyle playing but very much a newbie in other ukulele techniques such as strumming, etc. I want to broaden my skills and learn ghost note strum and other techniques that are unique to high G tuning. So this month, I will leverage a well structured course on RC101, Next Level Strumming. I plan to devote at least an hour a day and go through each of the exercise modules. I will use the Tab Play Along feature to make sure I achieve rhythmic consistency before moving to the next module. I hope to complete all exercise by mid Jan.
2) Application – I want to apply the techniques to learn and perform the capstone piece “Crossing Hemispheres”.
3) Evaluation – I will do one recording at end of each week and listen to playback and ask my dancing friend for feedback 🙂
Awesome pictures. Congrats @joe150!!

Here’s my performance of It’s Beginning to Look a a Lot like Christmas. I had lots of fun learning this iconic Xmas melody.
P.S. I have donated $50 to the Ukulele Kids Club. Thanks for supporting such a great cause.
@Andrew thank you for your feedback as always. I have learned so much from the monthly challenges, live lessons and this community. This month marked my 2 years of participation and ukulele playing woo hoo! Uke has brought me much joy and inner peace. Looking forward to rock out the next challenge with everyone!

Here’s my performance on Always With Me for this month’s challenge. Can’t seem to get a take without messing up but did my best. Any feedback appreciated. Thank you!
Not sure if it counts as a Xmas song but I would love to learn and play Last Christmas by Wham! sometime.
Speaking of it, does anyone know where to find this month’s live lesson recording? I don’t think @andrew has posted it yet. Does anyone know ?
