Here’s my performance for the challenge this month. I had lots of fun learning the Fingerpicking Etude no. 32 and loved the old world tune. It was really challenging to control and maintain the desired speed of play without messing up. I’m hoping to add this Etude as part of my daily exercise to improve finger dexterity and rhythm.

As always, I appreciate any feedback on areas of improvement.

I really enjoyed learning and applying the Apoyando technique to playing Swan Lake for the March challenge. The alternating finger picking took some time for me to get used to and building a consistent force on each stroke was not easy to master.

As always, appreciate any feedback for improvement.

I chose the Country Riff as the February challenge. I enjoyed the rhythmic aspects of the play and learned many new and challenging techniques. I hope I got the rhythms down ok and as always appreciate any feedback on improvement opportunities.

I do have one question for Andrew. In his performance, he performed a left hand movement down the neck at the end of measure 4 and before measure 5 which looks very cool. Is this a personal stylistic flair or a technique that I should learn to jazz up my performance ?

    Hi RockClass,

I chose Fingerpicking Etude no. 6 for the challenge this month. I love this composition a lot because it’s my first emotional connection with the D minor key and the expression of sadder tone and nostalgia.

The muted 16th note hits were a bit hit and miss for me as it requires a perfect left and right fingers coordination but I love the use of the sound in the play. More practice needed.

As always, appreciate your feedback on areas of improvement.

Earlier this month I had the privilege to see The Nutcracker by NYC Ballet. The performance blew my mind and I knew I had to learn to play “Waltz of the Flowers” in this month’s challenge. I can say it’s probably the most challenging piece in my Ukulele journey. I had a lot of fun learning even though I was not able to pull off some of the transitions correctly and timely. More practice is on the card 🙂 As always, I appreciate any feedback on improvement.

A couple of questions on top of mind:
    1. Christopher plays only with his thumb instead of fingers. Is this just a personal preference or is there a tonal aspect in play as well?

    2. In my performance, I played mainly with fingers except during measures 49 & 50 and Melody D as I think it the tone sounds better. What do you think?

It was a lot of fun learning Zelda’s Lullaby this month. What a beautiful melody! As usual, during the performance, I made mistakes here and there and some transitions were not as clean as I wanted them to be. Hopefully I did ok rhythmically. I appreciate any feedback on areas of improvement. Thank you.

I love the Halloween 👻 🎃 themed challenge this month and really enjoyed learning this Stranger Things Theme arrangement. I love the fact I was able to participate this challenge even when I’m on vacation overseas in a campground. I practiced at 70 BPM and hopefully I stayed true to the rhythm in my performance recording.

I did make quite a few mistakes but I tried to cover them up and kept playing along and hopefully no one noticed 🙂 I welcome any feedback.

This month I really enjoyed learning the iconic surf rock riff Misirlou. What made it even more special is I got to play it on my brand new Bamboo uke (thanks RockClass101 and UkeRepublic).

I was new to Tremolo picking and it’s probably hands down the toughest technique on my Uke learning journey. For some reason I just couldn’t Tremolo pick with my thumb as taught by Matt. I just couldn’t get a good tone with my thumb. So I tried it with pointing finger instead. Another challenge I find with Tremolo picking is I often run out of steam and slowing down the repetitive motion. But it’s such a cool picking technique.

The other milestone for me is it’s the first time I’m able to play with a band. I never was able to to do that before.

Thank you @lhamilton. I’m so looking for it. My current’s ukulele’s fretboard is made out of plastic. I can’t wait to feel and play on a fretboard that’s made out of organic material 🙂

Wow. I’m speechless. This is incredible. I can’t believe it that I have won a real beaut!!

Thank you so much Andrew for all of your feedback and thank you for the kind words @leb397, @The_Bumble_Bard, @jbmills07, @tessiert. I’m so proud to be part of this community.

P.S. Just the other day I was curious what a bamboo uke sounds like and I came across the performance by @jbmills07 who played beautifully on his bamboo uke and I was trying to imagine what’s it’s like to hold one and play it. A few days later, my dream came true. I’m so over the moon :)))

This month I chose Fingerpicking Etude no. 5. It’s such a beautiful melody and I really enjoyed learning it. The most challenging part for me to overcome is to Travis-Pick consistently and timely. It’s also easy to lose focus and mess up like I did near the end but it was still my best take from many attempts.
