rickeymikeMember@robinboyd – Wow. Didn’t know so much research went into that. LOL
Best bet is Conti Street but that’s gone. So I’m going with St. Louis Street. That address is just off Bourbon Street.
The 100 block of Decatur has always been a “seedy”/shady block in the Quarter. Lots of Greek “nightclubs” and visited by many sailors on leave (the Mississippi river is just a couple of blocks away).
Memorization: Well, somewhere early on, I was scared to not memorize it less I invoke the “wrath of Andrew”.

rickeymikeMemberLOL, Becky! To get rid of the potty mouth, record yourself saying “Dern It” then loop it and listen 100 times so it becomes part of your vocal chord memory. We need a new forum category for out takes.

rickeymikeMemberOne of my childhood favorites, House of Rising Sun, is what I will tackle. If anyone can give me the house address, I will record it there. LOL
Question: Are we no longer required to memorize our chosen piece? I feel like I’m being “Gaslighted”. I couldn’t find it anywhere in the ground rules….so I went back to much earlier challenges and couldn’t find it there either……GASLIGHT! lol

rickeymikeMemberLilDevil (or Hot Stuff The Playful little Devil. Do you remember that comic book?)
I do agree with you, being from that generation and humming along with that song so many times. A particular part of Melody B stands out for me as expecting something else in the next bar…ha. But A.J. played it so excellently, it just sounded stranger when I played it. That’s on me though……In the end the ukulele “ain’t no steel guitar” LOL
rickeymikeMemberKeep playlist alive: total failure….good going for 2 months then……
Level 3 songs: way back on the burners
creating arrangements of songs that I like: 100% successful on first staged. Much work to improve complexity but totally limited by my musical knowledge.

rickeymikeMemberHey Medussa. I mean Miz
Great sounding performance! It’s that Gorgon in the Stairwell effect.
rickeymikeMemberHey Miz. Thanks. That emphasis is like a validation of what I’m intuitively thinking as I arrange. I start by placing down all the vocal notes. Then I play it on the uke to make sure I have the melody correct. Then I start experimenting with a chord containing that note (usually it’s just holding down the melody note and strumming the correct open strings). I can almost use a chord for every single note this way but I figured it was overkill.

rickeymikeMemberMany thanks, Andrew. I’m going to loop and push through the next week. And boy did you hit it when you made the analogy with weight lifting. This is exactly what I say to my class over and over again.
Thanks, Robin. That beginning slide was the very first thing that I incorporated.

rickeymikeMemberLisa, thanks for the incouragement. I didn’t think of comparing then vs now. ha.
Beautiful rendition of SOS. Maybe add a little bit more slow down with some sustain in a part like: E-c-h-0, the_sound_of_Si_lence…… I think you actually did that at the end.Ripley, you and me both with the “dodgy pinkie”. Nicely done. Haven’t seen The Shining since it scared me at the theater many decades ago so don’t remember the carpet. But your work is beautiful.

rickeymikeMemberI AM A PREMIUM MEMBER
This was a first take but I rehearsed this 10 times before recording with varying results. How do I make a 2 minute song into 4 minutes? Geez! I thought I was close to getting to the intermediate level but it looks like I am just not there yet. Please, don’t hold back on the critique.
