Hi forum!
It has been a while since i joined the monthly challange but since i „used“ Nirvana as chunking pracrice i thought i might as well work some more on it and post it here.
Once the camera goes on i feel nervous so one shot had to be enough 🙂Still working on internelizing „look good, feel good, play good“.
Any specific feedback on the slide from 5 to 7 with the upward strum? It seldom sounds good.
@bethany looking forward to that electric smoke on the water!
smokealotParticipantWow, thanks for the encouraging words!
It is a great song and such a great arrangement too – I wish it was longer.
smokealotParticipantWhat is the chord called when you fret the whole second fret?
That should be D6
smokealotParticipantWhile I was looking for new strings the Aquilla Red Series came up too and seeing your question I remember reading something about them needing a special treatment compared to other strings.
They say it here: https://aquilacorde.com/en/shop/modern-instrument-string-sets/ukulele-banjouke-en/red-series/
Attention!
The Red Series strings must be stretched by your fingers in a gentle way. Not too much. The settle up in tune in 2-3 days.
smokealotParticipantHi again, I didn´t want to start a new thread for the following question so I hope it will be seen 🙂
The live lesson on the circle of fifths was fantastic (as all live lessons I´ve seen so far are – I feel like the topics are representing what is going on in the forum and Matt is just such an excellent teacher).
After reading so much on theory here and there and anywhere this lesson just gave me a kickstart. Thank you! After that I looked into chord inversions and read (again) through the “How to Write a Song on the Ukulele -…” pdf book (and finally felt like I started understanding something).
Reading that and having just looked at chord inversions I wondered how you can play a chord without using all the notes in it?!For example “Day Dreaming” bar 12 is a G. For a G one needs a G-B-D. But in that bar you only play G and B. What happened to the D? Does it feel left out because it isn´t played even though the chord of G needs to have a D in it? How can one hear that it is a G chord and not some other chord that has a G and B in it?
What am I missing?
smokealotParticipantWillkommen. Es lohnt sich dabei zu bleiben 🙂
Nur mit einem richigen Lehrer wäre ich jetzt wohl weiter.
Viel Spaß beim Erkunden und Lernen.
smokealotParticipantSeems like we have a winner already. But just to make sure: River flows in you
smokealotParticipantGreat improvmenets!

smokealotParticipant“You should only compare yourself to your own enjoyment”.
That live lesson was probably the most helpful one I have seen so far. A real boost towards becoming a better player simply by starting to enjoy more. Because that is what it is all about for me. If some performences come along with that in the future I am ok with it but first of all I am going to enjoy it more.
Thank you so much for this amazing live lesson!
smokealotParticipantYES! You´re doing Gymnopédie No. 1! I was hoping that would happen.
My first year on rc101 was well worth the money and helped me improve by lightyears – at least compared to what I´ve been doing through youtube until then. Especially Matts arrangements have been a blessing. They just seem to flow so naturally (perhaps that is because they are mostly from songs I know). That helped me a lot to become much more comfortable and confident. Looking forward to your strumming course.
I also appreciate your logical “level” setup with the courses and songs, making it so much easier to find something to work on.
This site is packed with information and it feels like I just started discovering it.Only downside: I got “Hi, this is Andrew with Rock Class 101.com” stuck in my head for the longest time 😉
As for feedback I like the idea of “more complex fingerpicking/strumming with vocal accompaniment”. With focus on the vocal accompaniment.
The only other thing would be a clearer forum. Sir_anzelot asked for something similar, a better search function. It takes a lot of time to search for something in particular (e.g. there are a lot of different topics about strings – it would be cool to have them all in the same place for better comparison).
It would also be great to be able to see more than just the five last forum replies – perhaps they could be sorted after topics – to make sure not to miss anything.
I understand that you are limited to what your provider is offering. But since the forum is such a vital part of this page I think it is worth mentioning it.Looking forward to another year of “Hi, this is Andrew with Rock Class 101.com”! 🙂

Here‘s my entry for this months challange.
It is crazy what happens once I start the camera! I have a lot more fun playing without being filmed – sounds better 😉Is it obvious what I am doing wrong with the two pull ups at the beginning? I just cant seem to get it right.
And yes: I cheated in the end. Will work on that later.
smokealotParticipantI didn’t watch the live lesson but i find it much easier for me to learn songs that have lyrics (i know).
At first i learn the motions and as soon as i got them memorized i sing (in my mind – singing loud seems quite a bit more complicated to me) and that makes it much more easy for me learing a song.I believe while singing the song i dont need to be thinking about timing as much which is a much more foreign concept to me than singing.
