My entry for this month – an honest one with a few mistakes. As always on highG.

smokealotParticipantHere is a new take of No. 1.
Was working on No.19 which I like a lot but could not get played clean at all.

1st one!
And a cheater, sorry 😉 But since I already had a video of Fingerpicking Etude I thought I´d get the pressure off of my chest. And to be completely honest: I even submitted it for another challenge.
If it counts as an entry or not: I will surely work on another Etude or at least do a new recording of Number One. (Matt has a beautiful arrangement of Moonlight Sonata which I´m currently working on and I´d love to have more ukulele time left to practice it).
PS: Thanks for the feedback on last months challenge – was a real boost to my struggeling confidence.

smokealotParticipantMade it in time!
The classical course is great and Steve an excellent teacher! I really admire his tone and seemingly effortless playing.
I bought a set of low-G strings but they wouldn´t fit, so I stuck with my high-G.

smokealotParticipantHi Class,
it´s been a while. The kids keep me busy but since I am on parental leave again (for a whole year, yeah!) i am trying to participate every month. Got this one down, let´s see about the others 🙂 It is really challenging for me to play regularly at the moment and when I play I alrady notice the differences. The easy pieces will have to do.
Here´s my entry for this month:
November 7, 2022 at 4:40 am in reply to: Nov 8, 2022 – Live Lesson: 3 Things I Learned From Playing Ukulele For 10k Hours #54603
smokealotParticipantOne last thought: if “playing” the ukulele was all about strumming as fast as you can while playing 4 chords I would’ve quit a long time ago 😂😂😂🥴🥴🥴. So glad we have Rock Class 101 to help us learn so much more.
So true. He spent 20 hours strumming 4 chords. If we divide the techniques one can do on the ukulele and think of them as seperate skills to learn one gets to do a lot of 20 hour workouts. At least that is how I picture it. It kind of picks up on another live lesson episode where Matt talked about this learning curve an how at first you are super thrilled until you quickly realize how little you actually know. (Loved the story about the burgler who used lemon juice to make himself invisible).
I just started learning Taimanes tremolo technique – will probably take me more than 20 hours to “master” it 🙂November 6, 2022 at 5:17 am in reply to: Nov 8, 2022 – Live Lesson: 3 Things I Learned From Playing Ukulele For 10k Hours #54580
smokealotParticipantWhile learning about learning the great algorithm suggested this Ted Talk:
He talks about that shattering 10.000 hour rule and how it is still possible to learn something and feel like you “mastered” it.
Just on another level. The 20 hour level. And since there is no “mastering” anything because the scale upwards does not end, I found this talk very encouraging.Looking forward to this months live lesson!
smokealotParticipantThanks guys!
@surferjay and once I am able to play all these scales then what do I do with them? I am still struggeling with the concept of imprpovisation. But it seems like you‘ve given it some thought (reading your older posts about theory) – I really would like to know how you have gone about teaching yourself the theory.
smokealotParticipantVery nice! How is it your son loves practicing? I would take your advice on that 🙂
