I chose April Smiles for this month’s challenge and really enjoyed learning it.

This is my replay of Zelda’s Lullaby. I focused on smooth transitions to the chords in measures 6, 9, and 10, as well as playing the notes above the 10th fret clearly. I’m really pleased with the improvement and it just goes to show that practice really does make progress! 🤗🤙🏼

I’m choosing Zelda’s Lullaby to refine and re-record. I first recorded it in November 2022, after a few months of practice. I had to play it on a concert sized ukulele then because my fingers couldn’t hold down the barre chords on a tenor.
I’m focusing on improving the overall dynamics of the piece, playing the notes at the 10th fret and above cleanly, and having smooth transitions – especially in measures 5 to 6, 6 to 9, and 9 to 10.

As always in December, practice time was limited. I chose Feliz Navidad and really enjoyed the learning process. Will be happy to play this even better next year! 🤗✨

I have done so many of the RockClass101 etudes and very much enjoyed adding this one to the collection. Here’s Fingerpicking Etude 35. I’m not a huge fan of tunes that just fade out instead of actually ending, so I modified it just a bit to give it an actual ending.

This song kind of violates my personal policy of only playing happy, fun songs on this happy, fun instrument. But it was the one I liked the most of our June options and one I thought I might be able to learn within the month’s timeframe.

@The_Bumble_Bard that is o kind of you! Thanks o much for the hair compliment! Has been a big transition for me to “embrace the grey.” Also, do you mean holding the ukulele on you lap instead of with you forearm? I can hold a concert sized Uke with my forearm for most songs, but not a tenor. I fin ld it really difficult (almost impossible for me)to move around the fret board whilst holding with my forearm!

Red is the Rose – such a lovely tune. I’m going to keep practicing the bits I find tricky and would love to get good enough at this one to make it one of my “pocket songs.” 😊🤙🏼💖

But I’m embarrassed to post this because truth be told, I just did not have enough practice time with work and family visiting from out of state. I’m sure there are many of you in the same position so I don’t mean it as an excuse or a complaint. Just an explanation.

This is my best attempt at Always With Me (from Spirited Away). This one was exceptionally difficult for me to record because one little slip up and I felt I needed to begin again. Which is why I just couldn’t risk doing the chorus repeat. 😟Really enjoyed learning it though and may even try to make it a “pocket song.”
