ParticipantThat’s such an amazing rendition well done 🙂
Re. Buzzing.. On my Uke you can here when I play the first frets I often get a lot of buzz. My action is way to high so I have to push really hard to get rid of the buzz. Maybe yours is a setup issue?

ParticipantThanks Andrew 😍 Loving learning some Flamenco.

ParticipantWelcome! Impressive collection of Ukes… Would love to hear a sound sample of them all 🙂
You are in great hands here… you will take your playing to the next level 🙂

ParticipantThat’s awesome 🙂 thanks for sharing & Hello 🙂

ParticipantI honestly think the hardest skill to master is timing & strumming.
What really helped me with timing was a loop pedal as in order to create even a simple loop you need to be in perfect time or the loop is off. I created a simple loop and posted it on the Discuss Your Gear section of this forum under ‘Cheap Loop Pedal’if you want to hear an example.
If you need any tips let me know 🙂

ParticipantThanks Andrew 🙂 This site always keeps motivated.

ParticipantI don’t think it will cost much to fix but the question is more why it happened…
Maybe it’s due to the way it’s stored hot/cold… I have no idea but I think that’s pretty unusual..

ParticipantSounds fun 🙂 Songs/Singing I can’t help you with but here is what helped me with stage fright.
1. Record yourself with the view to posting it. This definitely helps build confidence and helps with playing under pressure.
2. Play more when people are around. This may sound silly but if people are at my home friends/cleaner/builders just play. I don’t mean sit them down and make them listen. But just grab your Uke and play along in the background…
3. This really helped me and I think I got this from here.. Change the way you think about your performance. You’re not there to be judged for greatness/mistakes but to bring beautiful songs to life 🙂 Enjoy the performance, bring the songs to life get lost in the music, relax.
4. Learn music theory. If you asked me to play a song which someone else wrote/tabbed out I’m going to make a mistake. However, I can play you 20 minutes of Justin Biebers “Peaches” on my loop pedal, with percussion , bass, melody, chords without making a mistake.. the only reason I can do this is because I know it’s in C major and I’m improvising a lot of the melody (based on the C Major Scale) . You can’t make a mistake if it’s improvised.
Not sure this is helpful but that’s what works for me 🙂

ParticipantCity of starts would be awesome

ParticipantThanks for all the input. I’ll try and practise stuff I want to keep in my mind. I thought I was losing it haha

ParticipantSooo.. I’ve done quite a lot of research in this price range and the Uke I own is also this price range.
Firstly, I would go and try if you can. That way you get the feel and sound of the Uke.
I own a Cordoba 24t-CE. It’s a Tenor Uke with a solid spruce top and laminated mango sides. It also has a built in pick up.
I personally only play a Tenor and I think most people playing finger style end up with a Tenor as it’s the most practical for the style of playing. If I could sing I may go for a concert but that’s not an option haha
Woods – For me I love Spruce. It’s more of a Guitar like sound (if you like that) and I have a low G on mind now which really gives more volume/bass.
Kala really lead in this price range and their quality control has been decent on the two I own. I love my Cordoba. However, I’ve replaced the tuners as they were awful something I did not have to do on my Kala ukes.
You can’t go wrong with a Kala in my opinion. If I had a $1000 I would buy something else but that does not mean Kalas aren’t decent.

ParticipantHonestly, I’d would wait for someone who knows what they are doing to give you proper advice but tbh… I tried growing my nails a bit.. it didn’t work out, personally I did not find it super hygienic.. then there is the option to grow the thumb nail but let’s face it, it’s a bit of a commitment and looks a bit odd.
I think if you are going for that professional stage performance you can either grow them or even get plastic nails stuck on.
For me I just have normal nails and if I need to do something which requires a nail specifically I have a thumb pick.
I think it would be near impossible to keep long nails with your line of work and probably uncomfortable.
Just my opinion not based on any particular knowledge 😎

ParticipantThe sustain on the sugars are really good and I think if you are playing acoustically they offer a superior sound to the standard Aquila’s.
I play most of the time through an amp so to be honest by the time I add in reverb/chorus I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes.
The original Aquila’s had a decent sound (not outstanding) but we’re great through the amp … after messing around with a few sets I’m going to go back to the original and keep a low G.
I’m in the market for a more expensive Uke so will put on some of the suggestions in this post with that Uke 🙂

ParticipantVery interesting! I’ll check them out!
