I had done Wipe Out already as I was quite new to RC 101 – and without having tried it again I am sure I can do much better know with all I could learn.
So as a start my old beginner skills try:
For a better version I have to start practicing again and will do a second submission.
And I think additionally I will go for Steven’s Summertime.

ukandreaParticipantThank you Sebastian and Andrew!

Here comes my “Rock Around the Clock”:
Sorry for the many unclean tones.
Andrea
ukandreaParticipantCool, I am looking forward to your performance, Nathalie.
Here comes my improved version (unfortunately without garden setting):
Andrea
ukandreaParticipantThank you, Steven.
I am really happy that you noticed my upload and gave me such a dedicated feedback.
I will try to incorporate your tips in my playing.
Your technics are great and your lessons easy to follow along and I learned so much from you already.
Whereas I did not really like the triplet strum and Irish style music (not because of you, just I did not like that type of music so much), nevertheless I learned from it.
But I really really love your melodic arrangements of Spanish Romance and How Deep is Your Love with all the vibrato, sliding, Hammer ons and pull offs. The Bee Gees song made it immediately from zero to the top of my long “I want to learn this” list. And I really hope you will do another melodic/emotional arrangement in the future.
I highly appreciate your attitude of honoring and respecting great music compositions which is visible in just a raise of your eyebrow and a glance in your eyes when playing – there are nor more explaining words needed.
You are a great win for Andrew’s teacher team.Best,
Andrea
ukandreaParticipant@Andrew: Would you have guidance for bars 26 and 27 how to improve on the double stop part including the slides and pull offs in this section? I never get a clear sound for the pull off on the A string from 1 to 0.
Thank you so much!
Andrea
ukandreaParticipantThere a some litte differences which is fine, but I really wonder about discrepancy in bar 11 as Matt explains in detail how to play it in the tutorial as most difficult part with the index finger barred over 555-CEA plus ring on 7-E then pinky on 7-A crossing with index on 7-G and then in 12 barred index over 7777 plus middle on 8-A (according to the PDF notation).
I practiced with the tutorial and printed notes first and now when trying with the tab player for steady speed I see he does it so much easier there with skipping the 5-A completely in the middle of bar 11 and barring already over all 7777 from middle of 11 to middle of 12.
That much easier version would have been great to know already throughout the tutorial at least as alternative version.

ukandreaParticipantA (late) thank you, Andrew, for your feedback and tip for my “Come As You Are”.
It is so great to see everybody’s performances and how the fun unites us.
Infected from the other’s spirit I also learned “Smoke on the water” and parts of “Jump”, but I won’t spend time on recording as I am still very focused on Steven’s great Bee Gee’s arrangement.
With this song it is like everything I have learned in the past 8 months with all the practicing for the challenges combined with Matt’s live session advices comes together and pays out. That makes me really proud and very happy.

My Nirvana “Come As You Are” has to “come as it is” for this month’s challenge as my focus is on learning “How Deep is Your Love”.
I find Matt’s alternative Dm really, really hard to play with a clean sound especially in this speedy song.
P.S.: Kudos to kirpuff for your fabulous Van Halen performance!!!

ukandreaParticipantThank you for that super quick answer and the perfect hint. I just barred with a little bit too much pressure which made the strings ring a little bit. If I keep the Dm chord and touch very slightly all strings with the ring finger and pinky it mutes like intended.
As Steven would say “just push ever so slightly” – as Matt would say “press smarter not harder”.
It is so great that we have those various teachers. I also just experienced recently at work that it is much more useful to have a “board of mentors” than just a single dedicated one.Andrea

ukandreaParticipantHi Andrew,
before I record my video for Nirvana – would you have a hint for the very last note? It sounds so great that Matt brings it to an abrupt ending without having the notes further ringing. I tried different approaches but I don’t get it nicely done as with the last strum being upwards I am too slow to mute the strings with my right hand. How would you do it? When I try to mute with my left hand fingers (with slightly barring all strings with my index fingers I get an additional sound instead of muting it). I hope you know what I mean.
Thanks in advance,
AndreaP.S.: As known I am a huge fan of Evan – the Van Halen arrangement is great!

Hi Andrew,

Best,
AndreaApril 7, 2021 at 1:24 pm in reply to: Participate in the April 2021 Challenge – WIN Kanile’a Baritone Ukulele! #46459
ukandreaParticipantThank you, Andrew. I will do so!
I think this is really a tough one as you cannot hide any mistakes, as everybody will hear immediately any wrong tone or hesitation in finger changing with that famous song. And the melody is so beautiful that it really hurts your own ears when you mess up something especially as the hardest bars (10 and 12) are the most beautiful parts in the melody. So tough, but a good driver for further practice. And I want to add for others that your advice for bar 12 to keep the middle finger as anchor is really key for success for that difficult chord change. I somehow missed that part in the beginning and always got lost when removing and replacing all fingers. After re-watching the part in the tutorial it’s still a heavy speedy transition, but soooo much easier.
Also adding an additional tip for recording: Previously I could only record in the afternoon due too day light conditions. I now have a ring light which gives me more freedom to choose the time of my recording. In my video above it is night and complete dark, I just put that ring light on.
Happy practicing to everybody!

Hi Andrew,
here is my first attempt of the High G Solo on “Beauty and the Beast” for your early feedback.Far away from perfect but I am really happy with where I stand as one week ago I thought I would never ever be able to play through it at all.
I will for sure continue practicing to speed it up and get the hard transitions smoother plus don’t mess up with unclean tones – all advice on that and what I don’t see myself highly welcome! For the final challenge submission – is it ok I stopped in the middle of bar 15 to have a nicer ending?
