December 24, 2019 at 6:00 pm in reply to: Participate in the December 2019 Member Challenge – LAST CHANCE! Win Kanile’a! #34621
yellowrosecottagMemberThanks AJ for the feedback. I think it’s my low g string that is buzzing. It’s a wire wrapped string. I think I need to swap it out for something else. I was sleeping during the live chat but was glad to hear Andrew day that he really challenged us in the October and November challenges. I tried to work on the sound of silence but just couldn’t get the strumming technique. It was just too hard. My progress is slow but I keep on……
Congrats to Gianluca! Looking forward to hearing the Kanilea in the next set of challenges!
Merry Christmas to everyone! Keep spreading the ukulele love!December 23, 2019 at 12:22 am in reply to: Participate in the December 2019 Member Challenge – LAST CHANCE! Win Kanile’a! #34546

yellowrosecottagMemberThank you Andrew! I’m still working on it. I am trying to memorise the piece which forces me to break it up into natural phrases.
Also after reviewing my video I realised how disjointed it sounded so I am working on getting some sustain between strumming. It is a lovely piece that should rely on some resonance and not sound choppy.July 25, 2019 at 10:51 pm in reply to: Participate in the July 2019 Member Challenge – Summer Blockbusters! #29166

Here is my latest attempt to play Jurassic Park for my iPhone video monster! Lol
I should have practiced more on this but am flying to the US in a few days and have been busy finishing work commitments.
However I have two happy things to report. One is that I have finally been able to practice with the metronome more and I plan to make it the rule. I hope it will improve the flow. The second thing has a good and a bad side. I suddenly started to notice my ukulele is out of tune. Turns out the intonation goes sharp as I ho up the fret board. Particularly with the A string. This is not a happy discovery but I think the positive thing is that my ear training has improved to be able to be suddenly aware of it.
Happy August to everyone! Thank you Andrew for all of your help and the great classes!July 4, 2019 at 6:04 am in reply to: Participate in the June 2019 Member Challenge – LAST Chance to WIN a Kanile’a! #28664
yellowrosecottagMemberThank you Andrew!
I will check out that mishap with my finger. I definitely was not aware. I am looking forward to doing Jurassic Park this month. Have already had a go with Star Spangled Banner! So much easier. Thank you for all of your help. You guys at Rock Class 201 are great and so is the rest of the community.

Ok so suffer the masses
This is only my fifth song and have no business attempting Aloha Or, but I do love this song.
Still tensing up when I hit the video button which is not conducive to playing Barr chords.
Just need to keep working at it.
Thank you all for your forbearance.June 24, 2019 at 6:26 pm in reply to: Participate in the June 2019 Member Challenge – LAST Chance to WIN a Kanile’a! #28432

yellowrosecottagMemberThank you becky7777
I’ll try your suggestion. I suspect some of my difficulties have to do with finger strength. I’m confident I will get there eventually. As for the slides…today I figured out I have to grip really firmly and slide very quickly.

yellowrosecottagMemberHi everyone!
I’m working on Aloha Oe even though it’s really too advanced for me. I’ve been practicing a lot but I don’t think it will be ready for submission even by the end of the month.😞Problems I need help on. I have real difficulty getting a good bar down with my index finger. The problem is mostly with the A string. I’ve tried rolling my finger a bit to get more bone against the fret. To no avail. I think the A string is at the joint and the finger is indented there.
Second difficulty is reaching those higher frets with my pinky. The upper bout gets in the way.
Third and fourth problems might be just my uke. I cannot get a good sound on the slides. And cannot get the 12th fret harmonic on the G string to ring out no matter what method I try. Hope you all can give me some tips with all of these issues. Thank you in advance!May 29, 2019 at 7:09 pm in reply to: Participate in the May 2019 Member Challenge – 2nd Chance to WIN a Kanile’a! #27697

This is only my fourth song on the ukulele! Apologies in advance as it’s a bit rough.
But this is a great way to push me on and this song is much longer and more difficult than last months so despite all I know I am improving.
Things I’ve learned:
1. I get horrible stage fright even playing in front of a phone. It causes me to forget fingerings that I have practiced over and over again an it caused me to feel lost in the music a couple of times so I am going to work on that.
2. I need to start using my metronome more. I’m only just getting good enough on this piece to be able to start using it and improve the rhythm and flow.
3. I need more time to practice. But never mind, I’m loving the journey!Thank you for all your help!
