    @Sarrafina

    Hello,

I just watched your video and I am really impressed. You are so young and can play so beautiful. I couldn‘t even transpose the song to a different voicing. Everything sounded great.
    Wonderful.

    Best wishes,

Hello Andrew and RC 101 members,

I‘ve been working on FIVE FOOT TWO again, which still is challenging for me. I could speed it up to around 70% so it doesn‘t sound perfect and on top – just to make sure it doesn‘t sound perfect – I add a few mistakes here and there. But I must say, playing without a camera pointing at me I am really satisfied with how far I came.
For this year I decided to focus a little more on strumming particularly on old time songs like this one. It really is a lot of fun for me and I‘m sure that I can improve more with this type of music than with chord melody as I never can remember all chords and notes…

    Best wishes,
    Rici

Andrew, thank you very much for your very kind comment and thank you for offering me the chance to take this month to complete my January song. This extra time will really help.
Let’s see how my performance will turn out.

    Best wishes,

    Hello to everybody,

I try to give a short feedback on this months challenge:

    1) I didn’t have enough time because it took me very long to decide what I wanted to do – so I’m still in practice mode (as you can see from the video)

    2) My goal was to passionate what I recognized early, so I got a little frustrated what didn’t help with my progress.

    3) The overall speed of my chosen piece is way to high for my playing.

All in all it was frustrating and I haven’t reached my goal BUT I will keep on learning this piece as I really love it.

Please be kind with your feedback. I know this wasn’t my best month.

    Best wishes,
    Rici

Happy New Year RC101 team and members.

    Hello Andrew,
I’m not sure if I can put into words everything that is required.

I would consider myself a beginner in your level 1 and am very interested in songs from the 20s to 60s of the last century which I would like to sing with friends.
„Last century“: Wow… that sounds very far back in time.

After much deliberation, I have decided to take the course “Strumming Techniques – Beyond the Island Strum”.
I had started this course once before and never finished it.

I’m going to work through the course completely and work on it every day (approx. 30 minutes) and try out the newly learnt techniques on simple songs/chords.
I would like to be finished about a week before the end of January.
The last few days I will then learn a song and incorporate my favourite techniques.

    My goal:
I would like to learn various techniques from the course, especially the Triple Strum, and use them in a song (Five Foot Two).
The version will not be the Five Foot Two from the course, but a version with simple chords (C, E7, A7, D7, G7 and F).

I hope the description meets the requirements.

    Have a great month,
    Rici

@anikali, this is such a beautiful melody and the sound is great too. May I ask which equipment you used. I tried to record my playing too but for the moment I stopped it because now I can hear EVERYTHING – even the slighest „mistakes“. That doesn‘t help keep me motivated… 😂

By the way, on your photo your dog‘s face looks very similar to the face of my dog.

I am a premium member (who would need much more time for this months challenge 🫤)

DONATION of $20 to the Kids Ukulele Club (forgot to notate that this was from RC101 but hope that this is fine anyway)

    Hello everybody,

not just the end of this month‘s challenge but also the end of the year.

I’ve been working really hard to perform a song every month. Unfortunately, this song of all things, which I like so much and which marks the end of this year for me at RC, really failed. It’s sooooo sad – but it can’t be helped now.

Thank you to the whole team for a year full of wonderful tunes.

I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a great New Year.
I also wish all members much success on the ukulele path.

    Best regards
    Rici

I always LOVE the performances of Abster and every time I am blown away about what the brain of a young person is capable of. His performance looks so easy and fun whereas I‘m fighting through even easier pieces… ha ha…
But that‘s the way it is. I wish Abster and his family a great holiday season and hope to see many many more of his performances.
Merry christmas and a happy new year.

Hi Andrew, RC 101 teachers and members,

here is my submission from PATH OF THE WIND for this month.

Even though the piece was not really difficult as it has a lot of repetitions, as usual I did not play it flawlessly.
But this time I learned and also played it by memory, practiced a lot and above all played with the sound file.
You might not notice it, but this way I discovered a lot of passages that I wouldn’t otherwise have had in the right timing.

Once again, my heartfelt thanks to the RC team for all the work you put into this site and into us.
    Best regards
    Rici

PS I have a question about the timing of this song and HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS. Both files say quarter note = 90. When I set my metronome to 90 it is way faster. Do I misunderstand something or is this an error in the files?

I have to say, you’ve got guts.

I just listened to the first bars of the piece by Chopin on YT and I myself would never think of playing something like that on the ukulele.
But I like the idea and I’m curious to see what you do with it.

Hello Mika and welcome to the lovely RC101 community.

I listend to your lesson and it was beautiful but I think that it will be forever out of my range.
Hope you will have some easier lessons soon so that you will be my teacher.

    Best wishes

    Hello to all,

here is finally my contribution for this month.

It was a lot of fun again and I thank you, Andrew, and you, J.J. for this beautiful piece.

First I played the piece with a plectrum, because I really enjoy that. But when strumming I struggled because I was worried about scratching my good ukulele with the pick. So then I switched completely to fingerpicking.

And now I’m looking forward to the feedback and hope for easy pieces for next month.

Best regards from Germany and have a great time

Hello Andrew and everybody else reading and watching,

this month I went with Blues Rock Riff – Mini Lesson: 012, which really was fun to play though you won’t recognize any fun in my face whilst playing. 😂
I am always too concentrated – then I make really a lot of mistakes and they make me nervous and so on.

Nevertheless it was fun and one day I will be smiling and playing with ease. Perhaps next year. 😎

Have a great time everybody and many thanks to you, Andrew and your team. I really love these challenges.

@uku241: You well deserve the price. Your performance was so wonderful and made me laugh with you at the end of your video. Great!

    @Andrew
: Thank you for your very kind feedback. This months challenge will be much harder and I am sure that you will see that – I absolutely can’t remember longer musical pieces and if I have to switch between looking at my fretboard and my tabs it all ends up in a mess. But nevertheless… the July challenge was great.
