anirbafParticipantuhh, I really like people are strange.. the others not so much. would it be considered cheating if I did that one though I feel it may be easier for me than the others?
aww nevermind I saw Evans take on careless whisper and it’s got such a nice groove maybe I’ll give it a try! I’d like to know for future challenges though (: When I read classic I was thinking about classical pieces ^^

oh it just doesn’t seem to work ):
uh okay, got it! thank you guys for the motivation! this month I watched them entries and it’s very motivating! I had lots of fun learning the piece and I still want to improve on it! first time I’m participating, sorry somewhat camera shy ^^ but one-eyed tiny tuner is watching 😛 good luck to everyone!
anirbafParticipant@sir_anzalot “bundrein” would be translated to a perfect intonation (:
(just for fun: there’s no such thing as an instrument with perfect intonation, that’s because of the tempered tuning system that is used in western music, and if you tried to tune it to a just intonation which would be somewhat like the harmonics, then you’d end up getting sharper and sharper the higher you go which is sooo interesting for all the music nerds out there if you want to look it up (: )
anirbafParticipantexcellent! I’ll try the living water strings then! yeah floppy strings, flexible strings, as in the opposite of taut (:
they’re not available in germany but I was able to order them on their website for pretty okay shipping costs. so yeah, we’ll see how that goes.
@sgwarren, so true! I just rather buy strings by recommendation than by trying them all in no particular order ^^ I’ll let you know (:
anirbafParticipanthey, it seems like you’re already decided but anyways I had a flight tus36 and I didn’t like the plasticky feel at all so I got rid of it right away. I’d always prefer an instrument that feels good in my hands but that’s different for different people so maybe you’d like the flight travel ukes. for a long time I had only one uke for everything and everywhere and it was a wooden soprano in a nice bag. I honestly think as long as you don’t sit on it or bath it in salt water you’ll be fine. Nobody thinks about travelling with a plastic guitar either ^^
edit: I am thinking of a solid top/laminate back & sides model which are less susceptible to temperature changes

anirbafParticipantwoah it’s great to see everyone’s playing!
I’ve been practicing the pineapple blues but now that I’ve seen all the out in the north entries imma definitely be learning that, too!! it’s beautiful and actually much more suitable for my melancholic mood these days.
anyway i hope to be able to post something before the end of the month. wish you all a good time with practicing and recording (:
anirbafParticipanthey,
I wrote a mail to ukerepublic but unfortunately didn’t get an answer. I use now the said tenor strings on my concert uke and they work fine, good sound and everything.
anirbafParticipant(I meant to say: have to stay in the scale of the tonic)
I heard of giant steps as the prime example to key changes so I’m hoping most songs would be easier (;
anirbafParticipantthanks so much jina, I see my mistake now. I thought I could play over any chord in the progression the major scale of that specific chord but instead I would stay with the scale of the tonic. got it!
I’m learning music theory for a few weeks now and connections start to form 😀
anirbafParticipantwow, thank you both so much for the detailed answers! I’ll play around a bit more and figure out the when it sounds good and when not.
concerning the theory behind:
@jinajupiter can you explain why exactly the D scale in this specific progression would have to be mixolydian and how would you know apart from the obvious dissonance?as to the WHY, I don’t quite understand. playing a b over a c chord sounds just fine and b is the maj7, isn’t it. I feel like I’m missing something important!

anirbafParticipantanother thing: is it ok to play house of the rising sun with a low g for the challenge?

anirbafParticipantI couldn’t make it last month due to a bad tendinitis in my wrist. so I’ll probably take it slow and won’t even try one of the more difficult pieces (: good luck to everyone!
anirbafParticipantmorning has broken

anirbafParticipantAndrew, I’ll do my best to record it sometime during the weekend (:
October 8, 2019 at 6:24 am in reply to: Participate in the October 2019 Member Challenge – WIN a CUSTOM Kanile’a! #31166
anirbafParticipantohhh, what a challenge! I’d really like a shot at the custom Kanile’a! I think I will give Danse macabre a shot because I tried it a few months ago and never finished. I struggle with theme 2 up the neck though, especially the hammer-ons and pull-offs. I just can’t get them to ring out, those notes are barely even audible. any suggestions on how to practice them?
good luck to everyone! (:edit: I just fiddled around and now I found a method to make it work where I bar across two frets with the index finger so I have my ring finger left free for the hammer-ons! what a relief. though it feels like I’m kinda fudging on the fingering 😀 I think it will work!
