kayleighbMemberHere is my final video this month. I planned to learn melodies 1-4 at least. But melody 3 really stumped me. I don’t know what it is, but just made me feel completely blocked and a little disheartened that I couldn’t get it. All part of the learning process though.

kayleighbMemberTony such a lovely reply and just what I needed to hear 😊 I’ve taken a few days of playing to give myself a break and let me music batteries re-charge which is just as important as regular practise!

kayleighbMemberArgh. I’ve hit the wall. I’ve got to that point where I just don’t feel I’m improving. I’m working on melody 3 of Canon, and I just can’t get it memorised which isn’t usually an issue. And thats on top of the fact that my fretting hand has just stopped listening to me. I know this is a super hard piece, and I’m still only a beginner so knew it was ambitious. Nothing anyone can help with, just got to break through my own mental barrier, so came here for a moan 😊 hope you are all hitting those goals. Happy Friday!

kayleighbMemberOk week 2 progress – melody 1 & 2 of Canon. Not perfect but getting there. Couple of buzzy notes, and some work to do on transitioning from the barre chord in bar 5 to the Am7 in bar 6. Have had to slow it down a little this week too.

kayleighbMemberThanks Andrew that would be super helpful. Luckily I know the mechanics and musicality of vibrato, just lacking the skill on the uke 😊

kayleighbMemberWeek 1 progress. Melody A memorised and can play through with only minor errors. Still getting used to the new size uke but really enjoying it. I haven’t added any vibrato (I don’t know how yet) as just want to focus on the melody itself.
kayleighbMemberCouple more from me 😁
Edelweiss from Sound of Music
Come Alive by Foo Fighters
Turning Page by Sleeping at LastIn fact, alot of the instrumental pieces from Twilight series are quite beautiful
Maybe for next Halloween something from Nightmare before Christmas?
And finally, a request from my 2 year old nephew – the In the Night Garden theme song 😂

kayleighbMember1) Execution – I’m doing it, I’m going to attempt Canon in D. It’s the song that made me want to get a concert size uke, and now I have one it would be a shame not to try! Now I’m not stupid, I know this piece is way beyond what I’m capable of playing, so I’m going to work on the first 4 (maybe 5) melodies. My plan is to master one melody per week practising for at least 20 minutes per day (work permitting).
2) Application – I guess this would just be strengthening my 3 finger approach to finger picking within the first 4 melodies of the piece.
3) Evaluation – I’m going to aim for a video a week, so Sun 7th Jan – Melody A, Sun 14th Jan – Melody A & B, Sun 21st Jan – Melodies A to C, Sun 28th Jan – Melodies A-D
I hope by breaking it down into manageable chunks it won’t seem so daunting, and whilst I will not be able to play the whole song, I will be able to continue learning and building up my skill level needed for the remaining melodies 😊
Happy new year everyone! Here is to an exciting 2018

kayleighbMemberI never said this on the form but I just wanted to say thank you.
I got my uke last Christmas as I wanted to try it out. I tired a couple of basic strumming lessons to quickly learn songs but it just didn’t do it for me so I left it. Until I found your site around June time.
Since then, I’ve completed every monthly challenge (including Waimanalo Blues which I thought would be impossible). My confidence in attempting new material has come on leaps and bounds and I play nearly every day.
Now upgrading to a “proper” uke I’m excited to continue this into 2018. You have allowed me to re-ignite my love for music, learning and playing which is something I’d lost along the way somewhere.
For 2018 I want to finally move into that intermediate bracket, and keep going through the courses and revisiting songs I’ve done before to keep improving. In fact one of my favourite challenges was the accountability challenge as it gave a real purpose for developing/improving a particular skill and I’d like to see more of those in 2018.
So yeah, just thank you! 😊

kayleighbMemberHere is my submission for the month – my last one on my little Soprano for a while 🙂
A couple of firsts for me – the first time playing & singing at the same time, and the first time recording myself singing – I have a cold so apologies in advance!
Have added my donation on the website – great challenge this month Andrew!
kayleighbMemberAh sorry Rickey. Pachelbel is the composer of the original piece. I grew up listening to it so it’s one I want to learn as soon as I’m more confident in playing 😊
kayleighbMemberIt’s here……I was allowed one tiny play on it and it’s so much better than the ‘toy’ one I have. Feels alot bigger too so I’ll need to find a comfy position to play in.
Rickey there are a few songs that go beyond the 12 frets e.g. pachebel which I really want to learn (one day) so thats where having a larger uke will come in handy 😊
kayleighbMemberAh I had this problem too. My fiancè has ordered me an Ohana CK35G Concert Ukulele All Solid Mahogany for Christmas. I spent a couple months researching and finally settled on this one. Its being delivered tomorrow and painstakingly he won’t let me have it until christmas day 😣
