Wow, you’ve made amazing progress! You’re a natural and a hard worker.

Holly, Aquila low G was my first set and I didnt like the squeek or the boominess. I replaced them with fluorcarbon low G and it’s perfect. It’s not wound, just a normal string but lower. Both problems are gone.

It’s great hearing everyone’s takes. You’re all sound awesome!

Robin, I saw Paul McCartney live a bunch of years ago and I wish I had known what I was looking for then!

Now I have to go check out Dire Straits. It’s been a while.

Lol. Sounds like me every Friday when the new song comes up and I sneak into YouTube at work. Yeah, I can do that!

Then I get home and check the level and nope, I can’t do that.

Unless it’s Evan. Then I just know I can’t do it, lol! Some day.

But seriously, this guy was up down up down at the bottom of the neck. He sure can sing though.

Cool song to arrange. I’m thinking the steady beat is one of the iconic features of the song and it would be weird without it?

Can you try a snippet with it and a snippet without so you and we can decide?

I hate to get involved in a dispute with Beloved Husband. Lol.

I agree. It’s very pretty. I love the melody strumming.

I’ve always figured strumming wasn’t for me because I’m not into strum strum sing sing, but with songs like this I’m excited about the strumming course. I should have known rock class would make it awesome.

    Thanks for this song Stephen!

Edit. Question. Any tips on 1st string pull offs when you’re all bunched up? Bar 1. 88xx pulling off to 7xxx. I keep pulling the whole string right off the fretboard.

*blush* thanks Andrew! It’s so encouraging.

I know that intro is tough. I’ve been trying to sustain it but I can’t reach. Back to the reach exercise I go!

Eastern uke. That intro is hard. I don’t have the stretch for it. I made good progress with the chuck though. I used to always slap, so the real chuck is progress. Also I think I feel pretty relaxed except the middle piece? Do I look more relaxed than usual?

Wow, I dream of the day when they tell me I’m playing too fast. Good job!

I think it’s different for different songs. I got stuck in the slap pluck and never did the muted strum, which sometimes didn’t sound as good. On the current challenge, eastern uke, I’ve finally figured out the chuck strum and it sounds so much better on this song. Try to learn both? Or do what works for now and gradually build up to both? It’s a process.

Great lesson, Matt. Sorry I missed it. You’ve given me good things to work on.

I love the way when you say something sounds clunky and awkward it sounds just like me, lololol. Yes, things to work on indeed.

I have trouble identifying what is the filler vs the melody, but I’ll pay more attention and try to get more dynamics in. It was one of my goals for this year but I always forget and just focus on the notes and the speed.

Finger independence is a lifetime goal. It doesn’t come fast and that ring finger is the worst. When not playing, you can still work on it. Lay your hands on the table and tap your fingers, one at a time, while keeping all the other fingers down, like if you were playing the piano. When I was a kid my piano teacher wanted me to do that. I wish I had, but instead here I am with a wimpy ring finger.

Ugh, I missed it and here I was doing nothing. I’ll catch it offline. I hope y’all had fun!

I’m dying to get my hands on one. I tried an 8 string, which was cool but too much. The G on it was amazing though. I could play both my high and low G songs on it and the note was always there, with the other one to set it off. Everything sounded good on the G.

Nobody carries 5 string around here. I’d love to try before I buy.

Sorry, no first hand experience, but I’m following this thread.
