andracassParticipant1. Does binding have an only aesthetic role or does it have others?
2. What are the temperature and humidity limits for not damaging a solid wood ukulele?

andracassParticipantAllegro. I studied it for only one hour today, but I wanted to test myself even if I had no time this month.

andracassParticipantKala nut: 3.4 mm; Islander nut: 3.8 mm. If this can help you…
andracassParticipantFrom what I’ve read and heard, the 40 euro ukulele are only to understand if you really care about this instrument, and are little more than toys (although in the hands of experienced people they sound pretty good), but as entry level are recommended those on 100 euros. For intermediate users the price range is from 200 to 300 euros.
andracassParticipantI own a soprano Islander all solid mahogany and a Kala concert all solid acacia. They are both very good and with a nice sound. The only thing I can tell you that maybe you will not find in the specifics of the shops is that the Kala has the handle more narrow of 4mm along its length from the nut to the hole. 34mm at the nut for the Kala, 38mm for the Islander. Perhaps this can be useful for your choice.

andracassParticipantMy first attempt. I hope having time to upload another.
andracassParticipantMy problem is that there is no volume and sustain at high frets. Some friends of mine have taken a super soprano and the volume they say is much better.
I was thinking on this model (an Italian ukulele brand owned by Aquila strings):
Mahi-mahi 77
andracassParticipantNow I’m beginning to think the super soprano (long neck soprano) would be the right size for me…
andracassParticipantLisadmh, we have the same soprano, as I read in another topic 🙂
andracassParticipantMy soprano and my concert are both pretty good quality. My soprano has 17 frets and not the 12 of the majority of them. I really like the deeper sound of the concert and the higher volume on the high keys, but I find the soprano more comfortable to play. So I can not really decide which one I prefer and at the moment I could not buy a really expensive instrument because I do not know which size to choose. I hope that by learning better I will be able to understand which one I like most to play with. I tried the sopranino, but it is only convenient to put in the hand baggage, to play is really uncomfortable for me.
