I think it is a combination of the 2. The strum is definitely wide 🙁
I’ll have to go back to scratches and build it up from slow tempo again
    Thank you for the tips

Sorry I meant the strum on the & of 3 is from string A to G, so when the plucking comes on 4, my fingers to pluck are not around A. The rhythm and D-U patterns of the strums are correct. The tiny break between the eighth notes (the & of 3 and 4 of 4) is simply not enough to be there for a proper plucking… Steven almost seems to be plucking the & of 3 strum to stay around with his hand for the melody note?
So for me it is a choice between properly strumming and then almost missing the plucking. Or doing a shortened strum and be ready to pluck the note for the melody?
Or I’ll just keep practicing at slow tempo to figure this out 🙂

Hi, I’ve been practicing Green Tea and struggling with having my picking fingers in place when there are the 2 individual notes at the end of a bar after strumming. When I do the last strum my hand swings towards string G so no finger is left to pick on string A, at least not within such a short time… Should I reduce the last strum before picking just to the 2 upper strings or just almost to a picking on A? Any tips? Thanks

Hi, this is what I could squeeze into this month. As always with submissions on the last day, it feels half finished…

    Thanks @Andrew
    Makes sense.
    I’m yet to win a non-soprano uke 😉 😀

I typically run away from any pieces where there are too many notes above fret 12. And I must admit that “too many” in my dictionary for this is actually defined as a very small number. 😉
But decided to get out of my comfort zone this time. This is where I’m at now (and most probably where I’ll leave it unless the pinky and ring fingers suddenly harden up a lot more to be able to sustain a nicer ring at the higher frets…)

Here’s my take on Sleepwalk. I loved learning it, thanks for the arrangement 🙂

“Honestly I’m glad you’re having trouble on those two bars” => I literally laughed out loud.

Christopher, thank you so much for the video and for sharing the secret of the hidden pinky finger. I tried it now and as you say it will need some time to get used to, but I already feel that it will work eventually.
Give me a couple of weeks and I’ll be back with a full version of the waltz 😀

    Thank you, Andrew. 🙂
Such a lovely piece. One of the reasons I went for the easiest submission with the monthly challenge in May…

You can tell by the hand move at the end that I had a second part, too. But I cut it off from the video as I didn’t like the progression of “C 7000 – E7 5444 – Am 30002” in bars 43 and 44. The rest of part 2 is getting ready, but I always trip up on the E7 in the middle… It either doesn’t sound good / doesn’t ring at all in the middle or I nail the C to E7 but miss the Am chord. Any tips for me? I already tried if I could skip e.g. the middle 4s from E7 so the shape remains the same as Am with 3002, but doesn’t work very well either…
    Cheers

(Been busy with other songs, so not much time left for this month’s challenge I’m afraid…)

The most important is the technique but indeed the default nylon strings (typically Aquila Nylgut) are not the most ideal ones for classical pieces. I change them to fluorocarbon to get a warmer tone (e.g Martin)

D’Addario has this guide to their strings

I attached the full page version of the same from a uke magazine

Yes, sometimes it’s nice to rediscover old pieces.
