ParticipantI tried Winter Glass on baritone this month. Sounds a little melancholy on baritone.

ParticipantThat is my dream combination, but in concert sized instrument. Enjoy your new instrument, hope to hear it in an upcoming challenge

ParticipantI know it looks like I have been away a couple of months, but actually did learn Ironman in October and over the river and through the woods in November. But I sometimes get so frustrated trying to get a decent recording that I just don’t record it. This month I chose Away in a Manger. Tried it on baritone since I do not get the chance to use it much. I love the deeper sound but struggle with the larger size. Enjoyed learning this.
Andrew please do not include me in the drawing. I really gravitate to concert sized instruments, I would rather increase the chances for someone who wants a really nice tenor.
Happy Holidays to all. Peace to all.ldarrow
ParticipantNice job @deadbuggy. I have been thinking about mandolin. I grew up playing violin and had heard mandolin had same strings. Thought about trying to learn long ago, even before I stumbled upon uke. After learning uke, that desire to try mandolin is back. How is it coming along for you? Are you finding some things from uke helping? I have glanced at some instruments and they are a bit exspensive. Any recommendations?

ParticipantSo I have been sick the first three weeks of September, so only had this past week to work on something. Thus, a mini lesson was my best choice. My mind set right now is a bit ‘minor’ so I chose mini lesson 024 called ‘A Shade of Minor’. Still improvement to be made, but here it is for now.

ParticipantHave always wanted to learn Evan’s arrangement of Saint James Infirmary. Did not get to start working on this until last weekend. So really need another week on this, but here it is after a few days. I have struggled with E7 chord since I broke my ring finger. Struggle to be able to pull my ring finger back far enough, so much of the time I feel it’s out of tune. But a song like this helps me work on it. Also could not get the F in measure around 46 so changed it a bit. Thanks for listening and any tips. Have enjoyed everyone’s submissions

Participant@andrew thank you, your helpful suggestion makes perfect sense. I have slowed it down and am making sure my strum is steady and am able to keep my left hand in sync. Will gradually pick up speed.

Participant@andrew,thank you for the tip, I just want to make sure I understand. I felt like the walk down was ‘jerky’ and not smooth. When I played on the soprano sized uke it did not feel like that. I almost chose to do it on the smaller uke for that reason. I was thinking I could not make it smooth on the larger uke because maybe I was holing too tightly, making it more difficult for that length of movement. But, I think what you are saying is that it is more because the timing between the strum and the walk down are a bit out of sync with one another. Timing issue. Let the strumming hand be the guide for the tempo rather than the left hand? Am I understanding?

ParticipantCould not pass up a song as fun as ‘Sitting on the Dock of the Bay’. Though I had a blast learning this, per my typical self, could not record without mistakes.

ParticipantGreat work by all who did this challenge. Enjoyed listening to the entries. May snuck up on me and I did not make the deadline. However I did work on walking the bass line throughout the month. It is really fun and I recommend it highly

Participant@marianne that was great. I am working on this one too. Andrew makes this look effortless but it is truly quite challenging. So far I’ve gotten through the intermediate level , but very slow pace. Not sure if I will be able to get it up to speed, and the advanced level may not happen for me within the month. You inspire me with your performance

ParticipantWonderful @deadbuggy. Music has so many magical qualities, nice to see that music can keep you together although you are apart. Don’t know if I have the skills for all levels, but am looking forward to trying to walk the bass line 3 ways this month.
