    Welcome, Markus!

I’m Canadian but my mom grew up in the Black Forest area of Germany. We still have lots of relatives there! Im Moment lerne ich Deutsch, damit ich mit meinen Verwandten, einschließlich meiner 85-jährigen Oma, sprechen kann 🙂

Rock Class is a great place to learn fingerstyle ukulele songs. I think you’re doing great by starting at beginners — there is always something to learn with each arrangement and you’ll build up your skills with time and practice. Enjoy!

    Hi Andrea,

Sorry to hear you’re having more finger-sticking string-noise problems! If you change your picking attack (index/middle/ring instead of thumb), then you could try muting to solve the problem, like Andrew said. For what it’s worth, I like to mute the strings with my right thumb instead of my palm (see attached pic) — just a bit easier for me to do.

Maybe Matt knows the secret since he’s using his thumb and not palm muting!

    Good luck,
    ~Nathalie

Hi @lakeside339! Sometimes I use the palm/fingers of my right hand to mute strings after I play them, but I also learned this tip when I was trying to solve the same problem:

Not sure if it’ll help you in this particular situation, but it might help with your playing in the long run.

Hi @Andrew and the Rock Class 101 Team! Congratulations on another great year.

One thought I had, inspired by a friend who hasn’t quite figured out how to sing and strum/pick at the same time, is a lesson or course that provides a step-by-step approach on how to achieve that.

“I’m interested in adding another teacher that could teach more complex fingerpicking/strumming with vocal accompaniment – would that interest you? I’d love to see another female teacher join us 🙂”
    — I think this is a great idea! For the teacher, are you looking for someone with a lot of experience and a musical background, or would I be a suitable candidate for this? I’d be interested to hear about your requirements and application process.

Really looking forward to Gymnopédie No. 1!

    Happy Holidays!
    Wishing you all the best,
    ~Nathalie

Thanks @Andrew and @Steven! I really enjoyed your arrangement and lesson, Steven. Your teaching style is easy to follow and I love the bits of humour you put into it (I wore my ‘Christmas jumper’ because you told me to).

    Cheers!

Happy December! I donated $40 to the Ukulele Kids Club. Here is my recording of Carol of the Bells.

Now onto The Christmas Song — one of my favorites! Take care everyone 🙂

Nice work Lyndall!! I love this one too. Can’t think of any tips except to keep playing songs you love! It shows in your expressions and movements.

The last two verses of Puff the Magic Dragon get me all choked up. Listen on and you’ll know why. Poor Puff.

    Cheers!

Hi Marlie, welcome to RC 101! I’m Canadian but I have some relatives in the Black Forest area of Germany. I was supposed to go there this year to celebrate my Oma’s 85th birthday, but no such luck (thanks COVID!). Take care and have fun learning the ukulele!! 🙂

    Thanks @rickkhan!

I kept working on this song and re-recorded it for the May 2020 Member Challenge. Still love it! You should give it a try (singing and all). 🙂
